The new Macbook Pros apparently are going to be announced in April - anyone know when? Im trying to time a secondhand Macbook pro purchase, and obviously the best time will be just before the announcement (Im guessing..)

The only people that know the answer to your question are Apple. Rumours are just that, so your guess is as good as ours.

Ah ok, so only a rumour - no upcoming apple events pointing to announcement? (a la ipad etc)

Nope nothing official.

Intel need to get mobile versions of Ivy bridge out into wild currently slated for early June. Apple have in the past got hold of Intel CPU's earlier than most so if that trend continues May/June seem's like a likely window for a Macbook Pro refresh.

You should be able to tell once release date nears as the Internet normally whips itself into a frenzy, that's when you should start look to purchase. :)

I'd ignore the buyer's guide. It is completely based on time; as a result, loads of products are technically bad buys right now.

We're looking at an May or June release as stated by Huddy; in fact, his whole post is bang on.

Even though the timing doesn't seem bang on right now, I really wouldn't be surprised if the release of the new MBP coincided with the release of Mountain Lion, or at least at a similar time.

Considering the delays to the Intel Ivy Bridge CPUs and Mountain Lion 10.8 being released in 'late summer', the MacBook Pros, Air and iMacs won't be released until then. They have also been on the 3rd generation of their current designs, and I would not be surprised to find a new design and hence the delay. Ie. MacBook Pros as thin as the Airs, and iMacs with a new frame.

They did a couple of refreshes last year, I grabbed a sandybridge in Feb and they updated in Oct, knocking clock speed up slightly.

How common is that?

Anyway I'm itching to get another :p
