S320CDI - Opinions

The W221 is a significantly better car than the W220 in almost every way. Sadly not that relevant to this thread :(

Oh yeah, if you get the decent spec its a lovely car, but still doesnt really scream 'special' to me. I was talking about the w211 E class, the W210 was another rot box:(

Im a strange bloke tho, so dont listen to me, the S class saloon does nowt for me, but the CL500, now we are talking :p
 
I almost went for a CL but I just couldn't get on with that front end.

What I'd really love is a 500SEC.
 
Despite the ney sayers, I love my 2005 S320L CDI

Whilst it indeed does not have the performance of the petrol V8s, its not as bad as has been purported in this thread. As for the 'diesel' noise.. LOL.. i cant hear a thing in the car at all once its running.. the wonders of sound deadening and double glazing.

I use a local indy for work being done on the car, and they charge very reasonable rates (compared to a main dealer!)

The only thing I have had go wrong is a fuel pump and one of the HID bulbs failed.

I average 28-30mpg and can see 39-40mpg on a run.
I do longer runs in the car so made sense for me.. each to their own, thats what choice is about..
If I want fun, I go out on the bike, or pop out in the sporty number ;).

My S320 is the family car, and its veyy good at what it does
 
From what I've gathered from this forum, the most cost effective wafting is a Skoda Superb. Is this correct? What else should I be looking at for wafting with a budget of £8k? How would the running costs of a 730d differ to my X5 for instance?
 
£5k E65 diesel = lol, I would imagine that will be nothing but a relentless nightmare.

The Skoda though is more interesting - half the age, lovely spec. It does have one of the engines I hate most in the world but then to be honest I'd imagine 95% of the Superbs do. My only real worry there would be DSG and 160k. I've not really heard good things about DSG repair costs, it would appear to be scarily expensive to fix.
