What films have you seen where you thought, "Wow, I've never seen anything like this" or "this has never been done before" etc.

I was about to say that The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus was probably the most original film that I've seen in a long time, but then when I think about it, it has a lot of similarities with the adventures of baron munchausen, so I guess that rules that out, so erm...

Phone booth was one of a kind when it came out.

Only watched it once, but i remember walking away thinking, that was different!

I'm not quite sure Inception counts, but I hadn't seen anything like it before. The Matrix was also rather new. Real shame they ruined that one with the sequels...

La Jetee - more so than any other film I've ever seen and has inspired others like Twelve Monkeys and Source Code.

In terms of outright contribution to originality in film, Citizen Kane has got to be right up there. Amazingly ambitious and executed so well.

Lastly, in terms of broaching social bondaries, I'd say The Apartment is very original.

Amelie, Crash, Inception, American Beauty, Fast and Furious, among many others.

At some point, every film would have been orginal.

The Matrix is original as a film, but not conceptually - there's been oodles of books about that sort of thing.

I'd say... Adaptation.

Requeim for a Dream.

A movie that leaves you thinking about for it many weeks and months after watching it.
