Guild Wars 2

My mate who's never played GW has a beta invite. I've had nothing. He said I could have his invite. Since no invite has come for me I might have to take him up on the offer. Depends though if they match his invite with his machine specs.

You would think they would have at least matched email addresses to existing accounts and gave them a high change of getting into the beta.

Why give people who have never played GW1 beta access? If it's a real 'beta', the emphasis should be on bug finding. Now who is more likely to find a bug? A person who's played GW1 (a lot) and know's a fair bit about the world and it's lore, or a newbie who hasn't got a single clue about the world or it's lore, and just wants to try the game out for lol's.

To be fair, 90% of beta testers dont bug find and report anyway, they use it as a way to play a game in advance or for free. Also just because a person has played GW1 doesnt make them a better tester, what about someone like myself who has played MMOs for 15 years , has played every major MMO ever released, has a background in software diagnostics and troubleshooting , yet hasnt played GW1. Does that make me a worse beta tester than someone who has never touched an MMO, thinks that WoW was the game which created the genre, but played GW1?

There are millions of people who played GW1 who make good testers, and there are millions of people who didnt play GW1 who make good testers. There are also millions of people who played GW1 who make awful testers and millions of people who didnt who make awful testers.

got a invite for the beta this weekend but not been impressed by anything I have seen of the game hopefully the beta will change my mind but I doubt it

GW1 players should not be entitled to anything. GW2 is a completely different game with very little in common. The only advantage a GW1 player would have is if the player knew everything about the lore and could spot any inconsistencies in the lore of GW2. But the vast majority of content and gameplay have nothing to do with GW1.

Also part of the randomness of testing means they want to get a wide range of people of all different types, and most likely there will be people who have played GW1 in the GW2 beta just by random chance. No need to give them any special advantage.

GW1 players always seem to act like they are entitled to GW2 stuff just because they played GW1. It's silly.

These kind of Beta releases are the new way to create hype around a product. There is nothing better than knowing you are getting to play something early, before the official release :)

This kind of beta also helps them with stress tests but they are not expecting brilliant fault finding skills from these beta testers, with detailed reports and how to re-create the problem. Some will, most won't. They will already have a real testing team, doing this exact job.

Still hope I get onto the beta though ;)

Would be interested to hear your opinion after the weekend... I am struggling to get hyped about it too.

Do you have to pre-order the game to get beta access or is just the sign-up a while back do it?

If you signed up to enter the beta before they closed signups then you are in with a chance of getting into the beta. Pre-purchasing from their website also gives you weekend beta access.

Thanks for clearing that up for me, I dont know what to do. I think I would just wait for my chance of a beta (never seem to get them though) I dont want to ruin the game before release unless I get an invite rather than pre-purchasing 1.

I think with a lot of people they are expecting way to much for new games, thats all I haven ever seen with different releases.

Rift
SWTOR
Warhammer Online
Lord of the Rings

Yes I am aware that they all have their different problems, but a lot of people are ALWAYS. 'I am not impressed' 'Its not as good as Its hyped up to be' 'Its a clone of WoW'

Its just getting old now. I honestly dont know what people want for them to go WOW!!!

Still havn't clocked the first guild wars, the darn download times for each map is too long so i couldn't be bothered
