EVGA GTX 570 SC, EVGA GTX 480 or HD 7850

Well I know I am not normally a green type of person but the 7850 could actually use close to half of the power of the 480. Not that it matters because you're literally talking pence per day, but I would also stick out thine neck and say that it is probably far cooler than both the Nvidias.

I mean sure, it won't be a top end super duper card, but at £199 with 2GB vram it's really not that bad.

I am in the same position and was just going to pull the trigger on a 480 but decided to read some overclocking results for the 7850 and was very impressed, it seems the 78xx cards like to overclock and the 7850 gets very near the 570 in most cases and beats it in some.

With the low power consumption i think i'm going to get one for now and overclock it then add another later.

Some people have told me to wait for the 6xx series but I don't think I'll be able to afford those. I'll most likely be upgrading again next year so I might just go for the 570 SC.

Edit: In fact, I think I'm just going to wait till the 6xx series is released to see what price they're at. Plus, the AMD cards and the 570 / 580 may drop in price once the new 6xx is released.

the 680 released soon willbe 7970 prices so it wont drop any of the 570 prices

570 is the worst of the lot IMO. As soon as the next game engine comes it will be rendered useless.

Get a 6970 if you can. Very close fight with the 570, 2gb vram, price *should* be about the same.

People have been saying this for god knows how long. GTX570>HD6970 in my experience and having used them both a fair bit.

GTX 480 for me at its current price :

EVGA top brand.

£40 cheaper than a 570 and as fast

More Vram than a 570

Higher Memory Interface than a 570

Most 480s will OC to 850 mhz and will then be as fast as a GTX 580.

480 needs a decent case with decent airflow else it will be hot and noisy.

7850 has more Vram than both the 480 and 570 and no doubt will be cooler and use a bit less power.

will the 1200mb vram be a critical factor at 1900x1200?

No, but it could mean the difference between 4AA and 8 AA!:p

As long as you have atleast 1gb VRAM, then there won't be massive differences in quality if you compromise when needed at 1080p

That wing said, if there's little price difference (as there is now with te 560Ti) then you may aswell get more VRAM!

I'd go 570 for the cooler and quieter. 480 also good but would need an aftermarket cooler for me.

I would not wait, I don't expect these prices to get beaten and kepler wont be driving 570 prices down any time soon.

If I were to increase my budget to £290 what card would i be best getting.. most likely the 7870?

No. Wait for Kepler to hit then wait for a 7950.

I saw a triple fan Windforce sell second hand for £290 yesterday.

They will come down, especially the 7970 and 7950. AMD won't get away with charging more than a 680 for less performance.

Its not like the guy can access the members market to get such a deal!

Wasn't on the MM. It was just an example any way.

There's one on OCUK for £335 ATM. Personally I would save up the £40 or so and get a 7950. Mostly because it's a very high end card with a whole ton of vram.

It's got to be worth waiting a little while longer though to see what impact Kepler has on the 50 and 90's prices.

I went with EVGA 570SC ignoring benchmarks at 1080p it copes very well with modern games, not loud or hot running on my Z68 motherboard temps top out 70oc with 70% fan at 100% whilst folding. Running games it runs much quieter fan 50% temps hover 60oC the noise is low hum rather than annoying higher pitched sound.

The EVGA support is best i ever encountered and long warrenties are not void if you water cool them or mod them in the future.

Put it this way in all benchmarks the 570 SC is there abouts on par with 580.
