Quick run down.

Saw car on Saturday from a independent dealer, I took an expert and we checked everything, car was good, bar a weak battery. Dealer agreed to give it an mot and a new battery.

Pick the car up today, I checked it had a new battery (fitted today), also checked it had been mot'ed, it had the day before at different garage, all fine so I cough up the cash.

So I got it home and checked everything again, only this time I had time to work out how to shut off the automated lights, low and behold dipped beam doesn't work, only thing I couldn't check at the time.

So how did this get missed on the MOT? I suspect it didn't and it was the dealer that broke them when they changed the battery after it had been mot'ed a day previous.

I'm going to have a go at fixing it myself tomorrow as I suspect it will be lass hassle than going to the dealer. But if it isn't an easy fix I will have to, what are my general rights in this regard? I have a 3 month engine gearbox warranty with them but I guess they still have an obligation to fix this right?

I just want to know my rights before I get on the phone with him as these types can be quite slippery.

Thanks.

They should fix that if you ring them up, assuming the car didn't cost you £300.

You may just be doing it wrong, what car is it?

Was the garage a sort of.... aquatic sport named place? Sounds all too familiar to me is all.

Check obvious things like a fuse as a starting point. What car is it?

It's an megane 225, bought from here: http://www.autosolutionsbristol.co.uk/

The fuses are under the battery, 1 each per light, not easy to get to, and it's a 1hr job to get to the bulbs apparently, bumper off or something.

But I'll have a bash tomorrow and if I fail I will ring up, its less hassle for me to fix it than drop it off and wait etc.

I suspect no one is trying to pull a fast one here, they probably just shorted something changing the battery, so hopefully an easy fix. Just wanted to know how far I could push the dealer under law if he gets a bit shirty.

wasn't it a megane on fifth gear? when they showed how stupid it was to replace a bulb. Wheel off, panel off and lots of fiddling under the bonnet. Took half an hour to do one bulb I think!

I recall seeing this (or something similar) - what an absurd design, can you imagine having to do all that at the side of the M25 with trucks like mine thundering past? No ta!

It is hard enough trying to do it on the driveway, never mind at the side of the road! :p

You can get to the bulbs through the wheel arch, its a tight squeeze and will scratch your knuckles. I used to have a megane and change the head light bulbs in about 5 or 10 minutes a side, ultimately I ended up getting long life bulbs so as to svoid this hassle.
