Now i really like the look of the R3 and with the RX8 being RWD it ticks the right boxes on that front.
Main worry to me at the moment is depreciation....what would you expect a 10 plate R3 to be worth in 2 years time considering they are £11-12k ish now?

I feel i'd be a fool to buy one!

You will lose a staggering amount in depreciation... if you want one, either buy a 57 or wait a year or two til the R3 is around the same price.

Also look on the owners club for a reasonable buyers guide, it will also let you know how to look after it. You have to be careful about choosing one that's been looked after. Get a good one and they're great, get a bad one and you'll have some large bills.

Get a good one and they're a brilliant car, especially for the purchase price!

Bonkers spending £10k on an RX8. Madness.
I sometimes feel it was bonkers paying 3.5k on a mint 2005 model RX8 with the crazy petrol bills it give me :p

But i love the car..;)

The R3 looks miles better than the first gen RX8.

However, Its still an RX8. With that said it'll still cost a bomb to run. So only purchase if you can easily afford to own it!

The fuel bills will ruin you, the engine is likely to break, and in 2 years you will wonder why it's taking 6 months to sell when the asking price is 10p.

lol. Cant comment on the engine breaking as mine guzzled down the petrol just fine.

But yes, regular visits to a petrol station will be a part of your life!

11-12k will buy you a very new sorted S2000.

You could lower your budget some and still get a sorted earlier model also. You should buy on condition rather than all out year. Avoid 2009 if you can as some cars had engine problems.

Factor in the cost of insurance on an S2000 as it will be more than most other things you look at.

s2ki.com for a wealth of info on all S2K related topics.

Major gotchas are seized adjustment bolts and soft-top wear/tears. Both are expensive fixes.

Ive been interested into R3 but again it has the same massive issues with the other standard model - High fuel consumption, lack of performance etc.

Shame really as its a pretty stunning looking car but looks dont overshadow the bigger problems it has.

Guess it will have to be a 350z, Z4 Coupe or Monaro then!!

Aye I'm avoiding 08 and 09 S2000's due to the engine issue. Insurance is cheap, CCI quote me 479 on an 05 going up gradually to 630 on an 09. That's 8k miles a year, 350 excess, parked on drive and with a 42 day SP30 ban!

Are you older than god? Because those quotes are well cheap!

the engine is likely to break,

As far as I know there have been no R3's with low compression engines. They have an extra oil injector which aids the apex seals on the rotors (which has seemed to work so far). Would love to see where you got your information from.

That is good. I can only dream of such low quotes!

Yes CCI are really good on quotes, for me at least.
I got quoted ~£280 on a VX220 and ~£320 on a VXTurbo but on a 5k miles, garaged by 10pm type policy and they would mirror my NCB from my "main" car.
Awesome!

I pay less at 26 :D

Postcode matters though.... JE

Post Code seems to be the major factor on quotes, my areas isnt the best (like Highland Scotland for example) but it isnt the worst either.
A few years ago a few companies said i couldnt get quotes due to my post code, i was shocked as i dont live in that bad an area!

Next best was Adrian Flux at £810 (£300 excess), First Alternative at £830 (but £600 excess) and then the rest were over £1k.
