Back in February I swerved to avoid a drunk cyclists which made me clip a kerb at speed ruining two tyres and a wheel. I had to abandon the car outside my girlfriends flat as it was undriveable and we were within a few hundred yards away.

Being 2am on the Sunday morning I couldn't do much and no mobile fitter was available until at least Tuesday so it had to sit there whilst I went to work which is 12 miles away, I also stay about 15 miles away.

I left a note on it for the wardens as I can't pay for a ticket at 8am for the full day, 3 hours max parking at any time so I hoped for the best. I ended up with a ticket on it by Tuesday which happened to be the same day a mobile fitter was coming to fit a rear tyre and make it driveable as I changed the spare onto the front.

I sent a letter of appeal to them with pretty much this and a copy of my invoice for a mobile fitting at my girlfriends address and hoped for the best. Three weeks later I've got a letter from them saying they decided to cancel it based on the circumstances.

I'm pretty happy to have saved myself £30 but if I had to pay it I would have as I was technically in the wrong.

TLDR: A person with a brain works within the council saving me £30 :)

My wife got a parking ticket last year. She was advised to stay in hospital following a medical appointment due to fainting (which turned out to be caused by internal bleeding - she's fine now though) so didn't return before her ticket expired.

We contested with Sheffield City Council via their online system. There was no response or achnowledgement of receipt. We got a response asking for confirmation from a medical professional 3 months later, by which time she'd already paid the fine to avoid the cost increase.

Would like to kick up a fuss but not really worth our time over a few quid. Annoying though.

Yea, was definitely expecting the thread title to be sarcastic here aha. Glad things worked out better for you, maybe some people in councils do have brains.

I know this doesn't help now, but may help in the future and for others: When you appeal, the timer is effectively put on hold until you receive a response, therefore the fine will never go up until you've had a final decision :)

Glad to hear this all got resolved for you mate :)

I hate to hear about people getting parking tickets when they have a valid reason, but also those people that go around giving parking wardens abuse - They are just doing there job and helping fellow motorists out by keeping the road clear :)

Hope your cars all sorted:)

I don't usually have to buy a ticket as it's after six when I arrive at hers but when I go on my day off I do buy one so I thought it an injustice that I should get a penalty!

Funny thing is my mate's dad just became a traffic warden! Can't be hating on them now.

Car is running good again other than the tracking but it's getting new tyres at the front soon so I'll get it fixed then.
