Display port for radeon 7970

Hi all ,

Just got a new system with two 7970 and a dell ultrasharp 27" monitor which comes with a display port cable , did not realise the gpu was mini display port , so my question is ... Is there any different between the mini display port to dvi and hdmi ?? Which is the best option?

Would the hdmi adapter output at 2560x1440?

Yes the HDMI can output the required res, depending on the cables you have I'd use 1 DVI and 1 HDMI port.

Use two cables?? For one display, I got VGA cables and display port cable ( not mini ) with the monitor and dvi to hdmi adapter with my 7970

If you don't have a DVI cable, grab a mini Displayport to Displayport adapter. There's no difference between DP/DVI/HDMI, but DP can carry more bandwidth.

Sorry getting confused between threads. Ignore that just one cable!

Hmm they don't. seems strange as they have other DP adaptors.

HDMI 1.4a may be capable of that output but the Dell U2711 won't run at any higher than 1920x1080 over HDMI.

Did you not get a dual link DVI cable supplied with the monitor?

If it was new you should have.
