Tell me about Saab 9-3 2.0T Aero

Where have people found to be a good source of parts?

I'm after a replacement front splitter/spoiler (whatever you want to call it)

There was only ever one 9-5 - it was the same car right from launch to 2010.

There was a new one but they made about 4 and went bust so nobody has one really.

I know where 50% of them live then :D :p

Which 9-5 are you talking about? Aren't they the same engines as the 9-3?

Noooo. As fox said ignoring the 2010 9-5 which is rare as rocking horse... The Saab 9-3 has a GM engine in it.
The Saab 9-5 has a Saab 2.3 HOT engine with much greater tuning potential and far more torque.

Saab 9-3 Aero is for example is 207bhp/300nm torque stock. With a stage 1 map this increases greatly to 250bhp/365nm torque, but from that point on after a downpipe change you start to hit the limits of the engine with stock hardware.

Saab 9-5 Aero with the Saab developed engine is 260bhp/350nm of torque and a stage one map will take that to 275bhp/420nm torque. They're limited by the downpipe also, replace that and go to stage 3 which is 285bhp/440nm torque. From there you can take the stock engine to a safe 300bhp with a better turbocharger, but after that you'll want to change the pistons.

Basically tuning potential is far greater on the Saab 9-5. There are trusted tuners on Saab sites that will remap either one for £70. I'd know as I'm getting my 9-5 Aero remapped on Sunday

Legend, I was going to wait as I'm quite content with the standard power but why the hell not? :D

Thanks :) - I've emailed him asking some questions about the process and going to go from there, need to get my car RR'd before hand ideally to give a starting figure.

Hmm...might start an RR thread.

It will make whatever it's programmed to make. The Saab Trionic system is powerful.

You could change the exhaust, downpipe, filters the lot and it wouldn't make any more power than stock without a remap because the engine is programmed to make 207bhp/350nm torque.
For example on my 9-5 Aero Stage 1 remap I can choose between 400 or 420nm torque and the engine will produce exactly the figure chosen.

Also once you have the remap you will get an OpenSID which allows you to see the power the engine is making on the SID on the fly.

Yeah sounds like a good bet. You're at the boundary in value between the 2.8 and 2.0 engines with that money. The 2.8, while sounding better, is silly thirsty and not much more power than the 2.0

The facelift happened in 2 parts - 06ish brought the GMey interior which is a lot cleaner and essential if you want to do *anything* with the stereo. 07-08 was the exterior facelift which looks, IMO, superb although the older ones will probably age a bit better. Post 06 and you're at £500 a year tax though - so you've got to chose between the better interior and lower tax.

These are cheap enough that a lot are now bought as cheap runarounds - aim for an enthusiast owned (uksaabs and saabscene forums are a good start) 2.0T manual and get a noobtune remap for ~250bhp.

thanks, theres a few fairly close to me on uk saabs, I will go a dealer and get a test drive first.

never bought a car with more than 60k on the clock, How are these engines on the mileage as most in my budget are 90+
