Do these flash when they go off? My understanding is that they're only activated if there's a temporary speed limit in force, and if then, they are set no less than 80 or so. Myth?

The gantries on the M25 have cameras both sides, so you can see as you approach the opposite carriageway if your gantry has one on

I treat these as operational only when a variable speed limit is imposed. I have gone through through them numerous times in normal conditions and never received anything.

Yes.

Myth.

Speed at which the camera is triggered is dependant of the temporary speed limit currently in force. If there is no temporary speed limit set, then they are still active but I've never seen one trigger at 80. Doesnt mean they cant change that though.

If a limit has just been activated or changed, the cameras are not active until the second gantry with the speed limit signs showing.

Not every gantry has cameras, they can however be seen on the opposite side of the motorway.

Yes but you drive at speeds higher than those of which traditional Gatso cameras can register. :D

Well I was speeding, quite a bit over the limit too, but I saw no flash. Here's hoping nothing it'll come of it, if it does, I guess I'll be getting something cheap and cheerful once the ban expires.

I know they flash at 120mph even without a temporary speed limit active (wasnt me) ... lucky *** didnt get a envelope with a ticket though.
I have gone through a lot faster than 120 and not had anything.

I thought they only go off when there are speed restrictions, much like the m42? I think its that one.

I have seen them flash several times while on the m25, not at me though :)

Source for this information?

I drive like an old man, so it doesn't really matter. However I've sat with friends doing well in excess of 100mph many times through M1/M25 and they have never received anything. I also know people who commute through the M1/M25 weekly and have done for many years and are yet to receive anything.

I don't think anyone has a definitive answer. Regarding this topic you could ask ten people and you'll no doubt get 10 different answers.

Just stick to 70mph if you want to be safe. If not, proceed as you do with small chance than you could get flashed (don't know of anyone who has been).
