Dog attacks police officers

There are afaik 2 (main) types of American pit bull terrier - those that were trained/bred for on the range and hunting and are/can be quite affectionate with humans and a much lower risk when properly trained and then there are those that were trained and breed purely for fighting and are a much much higher risk - unfortunatly telling which breed they come from is quite complicated.

Hmm thats a valid point.I still think that they are misrepresented statisticly when it comes to attacks on humans because of their power. Like a small dog attacking somebody wont be able to do as much damage and less likely to be reported. on the other hand,a pitbull attacks you or any large bull terrier type and your screwed and gonna want compensated for injuires etc ,more fuss will be made over it and it makes a good story for the news paper.

The one in the OP, that's why they are banned in several countries, because they are deemed too dangerous.

In other words you don't know what you are on about and are only guessing due to an idiot owner from a story you have seen on youtube/paper?

i just want to be clear since i have been around dogs all my life, all sorts of breeds and i have never heard of any man made breed to be born with the natural instinct to kill/attack humans.

lol school girls. The dog wouldn't let go, it was a danger to human life. It needed to go.

Yes schoolgirls , there are plenty of other ways to deal with an attacking dog.

There is no dispute as to if it needed to go or not, but it didn't need to be shot the only time i would agree to that is if it was killing the guy, which it clearly wasn't.

May be something to that - they are bred to ignore pain and will continue to fight in situations where other dogs would know they didn't stand a chance and back down so are also a lot harder to fight off.

They are too aggressive. Most other breeds are not. Sure training can help, but other dogs don't require the level of training pit-bulls usually require.

Oh yeah, I see school girls packing heat, dispatching dogs all the time.

If you watch the video, the police officer walking away was limping, he had already been attacked and was probably going back to look for a better solution or object to tackle the dog with.

Oh I see, so firearms officers are only allowed to shoot if someone is getting killed? Getting mauled by a dog, breaking bones and possibly losing fingers is not a good enough reason to shoot it, and they should continue to attempt to beat it to death with sticks?

Pitbulls have a bad reputation for a reason. Yes, all dogs bite. Yes, some dogs bite a lot more than Pitbulls (Chows are the worse I think?) - the difference is, when a pit bull bites it doesn't just bite....it locks-on and it's jaws are so powerful they cause terrible injuries and can't be pried open very easily. That's why you end up with 5 coppers wrestling with one.

Just not worth it. I like dogs, I've owned dogs, but I'll never trust a pitbull. If one comes near my child I will treat it like an unexploded bomb.

All sorts of dogs require different training... just because they are labeld as dangerous doesn't mean all of them are (and yes ALL dogs are a ticking time bomb, but 99.9999999999% are harmless when trained)

I assumed with all the thugs the UK has that use dogs as weapons that police (of all people) would be "trained" to deal with these situations, but i assumed wrongly.

No, i would like fire arms officers to do what they have been trained to do, not to waste time shooting dogs.

I agree, would never trust one... the majority of them (Well all of the ones ive seen) have the kind of owners that allow them to do this kind of thing.

Less likely to bite. Rroff said you need to identify whether the type of pitbull had been trained to fight.

Well, there is no way to tell, unless you have been told beforehand you would never know if you saw an agressive dog or a non agressive dog.

depends how it's trained, most go on command.

lol... england.

police dont even carry knifes or anything they could stab it with?? Just those stupid telescope batons?

Let's say I wanted a staffy. I always thought they were very dangerous until I met my friends' dogs. Would you say it would be a risk to get one from a rescue center a few years old because you don't know it's background?

We see hundreds of vid of police beating the crap out of people, then this pops up where they run like cowards from a dog. Its very strange, im hoping i wouldnt react like that if i was ever put in the same situation. It shows me that those police were not a very good team and had not been trained form this situation.
