Anybody much experience of them both in mk4 and mk5 format. Manual only in mk4 and will consider both DSG and manual in mk5. Just after what people think of them, what they like to run, maintenance, spec options etc. Only thing so far i have picked up that i have a slight urge to go toward split leather/cloth... as leather only seems to sag a lot and looks generally terrible.

Also, while we are on it how do they compare to focus ST  and the new shape civic type R

There the 2 cars seem to be in my mind, for something a little more up to date while keeping the skyline for times when you just want to go that little bit mad :p But its the golf im curious about most. Although i think by the end of the weekend i will have been out a run in all of above.

How do you feel about the focus and civic, seems to buy a R32 in around 2007 they start at 10k, 2007 civic type R gt starts at 7k, st is in around the same.

As a few will know in here I'm also considering several cars, one of which being the R32. Also the S3, Evo8/9, E46 M3 and Impreza STI. Strange mix I know.

So far I've test drove the R32 (DSG), S3 and Evo 8.

I'm leaning heavily towards the R32, decent performance but obviosuly not in contrast to the other's I've mentioned, but likewise also better equipped and potentially a better all round daily driver. I'm off to test drive a manual tomorrow and an Impreza STI.

The main reason I thought I'd post though...

...R32 sound! Believe me, you need to hear this in the real world to fully appreciate it.

I'd also personally advise against the Type-R. I owned an EP3 and also test drove a few of the later models (FN2 is it?).

Not enough torque for my liking.

Mate has a focus st low miles 2007 with a problem it wont boost and ford cant even diagnose it :s Heard of few other problems though too.

What annoyed you with the civic fox ? I do know i will miss the torque though yes as above, as coming from the tuned jap scene (and still will have the skyline sitting at 400bhp in garage for special outings)

Not sure why the R32 is in there. The Mk IV Golf is ancient by today's standards/
Mk V GTI is where it's at.

I am having dirty thoughts aswell.

Test driving a car today that can't turn corners supposedly, but can go down straight roads very quickly. :)

I have gone from looking at 1 car to 5 now, going to try test drive them all by the end of next week.
