Dog attacks police officers

British police are quite useless we need them armed especially in London where most criminals are.

That's bull. How many criminals carry guns? Practically zero.
I know it sounds bad but I would rather loose an officer every decade than let the officers carry firearms. In America there have been some very dodgy cases where the police have shot "criminals" and we don't actually know if it was in self defense or not.

All butch terrier type dogs and large stereotypical german dogs ought to be made very expensive to own. The owner pays a yearly license fee of £650 and it must attend abidance classes once a year to get a license renewal. Anyone caught owning such a dog without a license will get a £2500 fine or 6months in prison.

Ordinary civilians will be encouraged to grass the chavs up and receive a £25 bonus if said chav gets convicted.

And what about my dog? She's an alsation and only barks due to nerves, not her fault, not our fault just the way the dog's are bred these days and an inherant fault.

Again we see someone being attacked and other people recording it on their phones rather than helping.

I always think to myself that I could deal with a dog attack like that on my own. But when ever you see the video's, nobody ever tries to kill the dog themselves. I think I may be under estimating a dogs jaws. :p

Lets hope I never find out.

Why narrow it down to butch terrier type dogs and German Shepherds?

this is the top 10 of the most aggressive breeds

Dachshunds
Chihuahua
Jack Russell
Australian Cattle Dog
Cocker Spaniel
Beagle
Border Collie
Pit Bull Terrier
Great Dane
English Springer Spaniel

I totally agree with this. They should be made expensive enough that those typical no-life council estate thug/chav/garbage/subhumans simply can't afford one. There's a reason these morons go for pitbulls and that's because those dogs are known for natural aggression. Regardless of the fact that there are of course responsible owners, there's unfortunately just too many idiots that train them to be dangerous. There's been too many incidents in the news of violence from variants of these terriers. Or just outright ban them from the country. Some animals are just too dangerous or potentially dangerous to be pets.

I don't think the council estate thug/chav/garbage/subhumans will be that bothered about not paying.

Ermmm...why did they shoot the dog? there are plenty of other ways to get it "off"

This planet makes no sense.

makes no sense??? Tis fairly logical tbh.. - it put 5 people in hospital... shooting then an there is fine - why risk more injuries to people trying to get it into a van, then back out again and have further hassle getting it out again for a vet to kill it later.

Wow, poor guy. Nice of his mates to run off. :p

This has come up several times already - the video is from the end of the attack - the officers had all suffered injuries already. The one limping off I assume is the one who is reported to have had the flesh on his leg torn down to the bone.

The main failing here from what I can see is in communications, as the police weren't aware that the man had a dangerous dog, despite it having previously bitten someone badly (and why was it not put down after that incident?).

All dogs can be killers. It's not the dogs fault its the owners. I feel sorry for the dog for having a **** as an owner but hey ho. I feel sorry for the police officer who was injured.

I have a staffy English cross. She's as soft as grease. Not a fighter but so daft and funny. It's a miss conception that dogs are Devil Dogs. It could have happened with any dog regardless of breed

I dunno.

I mean with a mutt weighing maybe 25kg hanging off your arm by means of its teeth in contact with the bones of your arm...

If you were clubbing its head with your baton, you're going to get more hurt than the bloody dog.

The choice sucks but I can't see what else they could have done aside from bundling onto the dog til someone could kill it properly then break the jaws open to get it off.

in general

gouge an eye...

if its clamped onto one officer's arm then another officer could (in theory) pull the front legs apart (easier said than done though).

Rib cage is also vulnerable - if they can roll onto it, lots of force with a knee etc... (though wouldn't like to try with a pitbull)

There aren't necessarily any easy solutions.

All the same what actually happened didn't look good on film, was uncoordinated and unprepared for - would seem to indicate that some form of better drills/SOPs are needed for dealing with aggressive dogs they were previously unaware of when searching houses.

Some people in the military receive training re: how to deal with guard dogs - with the increase in these pit bull type dogs being owned by gang members perhaps the police should invest a bit more time in training for these scenarios.

I'd rather have a chihuahua hanging off my forearm than a pitbull though.

There's a full video on ******** if anyone takes a look, ending with the shooting of the dog. Seems it probably was the only option.
