How is this for a start

All set up, but yet to give it a proper test run :) Game of Thrones on Blue ray should do nicely!

I was up until 1am lifting carpets and running speaker cable, neatly re routing cables behind the TV, labeling cables etc Prob went a bit far but I'm really fussy about things like that.
It's got it's own shelf in my TV unit and while not snug, there is only about 10cm clearance above the receiver with around 10cm either side (open front)
Pioneer state 30cm above it! Although this is not a high powered unit I will keep an eye on the heat output and maybe invest in a small fan if needed

Yes...keep a close eye on the heat from the Pioneer.I blew a VSX 810 reciever last year driving KEF TDM speakers(4ohm's),which were a bit too much for the Pioneer to handle....mind you I was running them loud.I would pay heed to pioneers recommendations about proper ventilation, you dont want to over cook it and knacker the transformer,as I did!!

it's been chucking out DTS HD Audio since about 5pm now (Game of thrones) and is "slightly warm"....
Reports online seem to suggest it's one of the cooler running units. Nothing fancy speaker wise, just the stock ones that came with it (sub is passive)

Blown away so far :) Mind you, I'm coming from built in TV speakers to an entry level 5.1 system!

Glad you are now able to enjoy the sound as much as the visuals from a BluRay. Everybody is an audiophile once they have a taste of it :p You won't be able to go back to standard tv speakers now.

That's good......enjoy!!:D
I have to admit that I quite liked the sound the Pioneer receiver gave my system, very dynamic and punchy.

Next on your Christmas list:
- Dedicated AV amp
- 7.1 surround sound set up
- Expensive cabling

:D

dont get ripped off with expensive cabling ;) unless you have a £10k system you probably wont hear any benefit.

just some high quality Van Damme UP OFC will do and its pretty cheap. better than more expensive cabling ive used.

Again, thanks for the advice guys. I would have gone for the all in one Sony or Samsung unit if I hadn't stopped by here first :)

Picking up Drive on Blu Ray when I'm in Glasgow this weekend. That should sound pretty damn good. To be honest, I'm working my way thorugh my blu ray collection again off the back of the new sound system, it really is that good. Game of Thrones was stunning...
