After reading the EDL thread i thought id add my own two cents and thought id make a new thread as it has little to do with the discussion going on in that thread.

I've been living in Asia for 6 months now and in Vientiane about 4. I don't follow Buddhism but I and every other foreigner here accepts that's the natives way of life. We all respect practices such as taking off our shoes before entering property not pointing our feet at people or at Buddha and many other customs. We don't all congregate in one place, one village or one bar and we respect that we are not natives and we don't try to push our views on other people.

Yet in England there are various community's that have been allowed to completely disrespect the native English man's way of life and take over whole parts of city's and create monopoly's on various trades/jobs.

This is not stood for here and there are various laws preventing it. Why has England got into such a state ? I can only see the UK going down hill.

What exactly do you find disrespectful?

There is no reason why we should punish those who are different. Just look at Spain, we have many thousands of expats who form English communities and don't speak Spanish. It takes time to adapt and it can't just happen overnight.

Whole areas being taken over by certain religions. Halal meat being served in non Islamic Places without my Knowledge. All sorts of things imposed by recent foreigners. Second or Third generation westerners here don't try any of this.

We are a soft touch, cant say anything or will be branded a racist, French have more back bone than us these days.

What on earth is 'wrong' with eating Halal meat?

In this country it is considered a cruel/inhumane way of slaughtering an animal, its only permitted now due to it being required under certain religions. A large amount of people would not eat the meat if you told them how the animal was killed.

Of course, England is the only country in the world where people have no way of life?

It's an interesting point though. A lot of cultures are still steeped in ritual and tradition whereas the 'English' culture seems to have very little. (Historically England is a mixed pot of various cultures anyway) As such, these stronger cultures in which people can identify with are going to overpower the weaker cultures, such as English.

Can you describe what it means to be English, that is significantly different and unique from other cultures?

No one is 100% English. We are all migrants regards of skin colour

Shock horror as people with similar cultures locate together. They aren't doing it to personal spite you.

If halal meat bothers you that much, just ask if it's halal meat. Although I get the impression that you just don't like 'Jonny Foreigner' and have thus picked up on something to justify your dislike. I can't say I'm that fussed.

If you want to eat Halal then eat it. If you don't then don't you have a choice. Besides it's only as barbaric as killing a poor animal anyway without or with the islamic way of doing it.

Whole areas being taken over by certain religions. Are you honestly surprised that people foreign to the country are going to congregate with people of their own culture? It just so happens that the English are very much insular while these cultures are very much group-orientated.

Seeing as for the majority of the people it doesn't bother them, and that it has no effect on the nutritional value of the meat, why is that a surprise? Or are we to demand that they eat something they can't?

Such as? If you're going to accuse people of something, at least state what it is.

Shock as similar cultures behave in a similar way.
