What used to be a UK
playing 3d games on a gtx680 but using a 40 inch 3d Tv (Samsung) with a hdmi connection. Lol: maybe it's an easy question and i'm just stupid but would you be bypassing Nvidias 3d vision?

I wondered if I would/could simply use the 3d active glasses that came with the TV combined with the goodness of the gtx680?

Thats what 3DTV Play is for. 3D Vision is the IR dongle and glasses for 120hz compatible monitors.

3DTV Play just unlocks the nVidia 3D driver for use with ur TV.

Ok. Thanks
Edit: My mistake I simply assumed it was for watching 3d blu rays and not for games :)

you can download a 3dtv play 30 day free trial off the nvidia site and try for yourself =). I couldnt get 120hz 1080p outa my sammy 40" though, due to the fact a single hdmi cable wont carry it as i understand it.

1080p@24hz 3d sucked, but 720p@120hz was nice atleast, but just made me want a proper 3d vision monitor =)

What model tv were you using? just wondering if there was any difference? The one I got is UE40D7000.

the one i have is the ue40d6530, hope you get better results than i did =)

One rung down from the high-end D8000 series, the Samsung D7000 range of LED TVs is blessed with all the features found on the D8000 (including 200Hz/ 240Hz motion
Hopefully I will be ok then?

Edit: it gets more complicated:

You can play 3D games with 3DTV Play, but why would you want to? By design, 3DTV Play forces you to play 3D games in inferior 720P framepacking which results in poor image quality. Native resolution 3D Vision/checkerboard mode is prefered, but it won't work because your TV does not support checkerboard mode.
For non-checkerboard TVs, there are three options:
Tridef 3D
iZ3D
3DTV Play

TriDef 3D and iZ3D support side by side mode which gives you native resolution 1920x1080 at full frame rate. With 3DTV Play you are doomed to scaled 1280x720 gaming on a 1920x1080 screen. If you want to use nvidia 3D software, trade your TV for a D7000/D8000 LED samsung, any 2010 samsung, or an LG TV. This will enable you to 3D game in native resolution with 3D Vision.
Checkerboard it is then.
