That's good going for a first long ride. :)
I'm riding my first Audax tomorrow with Murf - 100k Killhope Grimpeur. A bit lumpy apparently! :D

This is the first time I'm not gonna be hungover for a Sunday morning ride in as long as I can remember. Looking forward to it. :D

Does pizza count as carb loading? :p

Jus got back from an awesome day at Bespoked Bristol bike show. Never seen so much Bike porn under one roof before.

Took a few photos but missed loads and they really don't do the frames on show justice:

Also picked up some decent shwagg including a boat load of free stickers, beer matts, posters etc and couple of Merino Jerseys from Shutt Velo Rapide for a ridiculously cheap £25 each.

i went last night, a few pretty frames but a few right munters as well. Pegoretti track frame was my favourite.

one of the girls on the rapha stand near the door described one of the frames as being "only about a thousand pounds"

Gentlemen, proof at last. Women who understand, do exist.

i went out and did 80km today. Pretty gentle, just easing a mate back in really. Had to pull the pin for the last 10k though - light was fading.

Touch wood I've never had a puncture on Krylions in several thousand miles.

Im not sure how to take people that say this. The Krylion isnt a 'puncture resistant' tyre. It would hardly throw off a direct hit by a hawthorn in September.

The biggest factor in punctures is luck of the draw on whats lying in the road. And choosing a bullet proof tyre of which the Kyrlion isnt one.

Without sounding day are they puncture resistant type tyres ?

No. Something like a touring tyre like the Schwalbe marathons are. No racing tyres are puncture proof.

A Mate is asking me about bike selection. :-/
I just ride the damn things, I don't profess to know what's good and what isn't.

New Trek 1.1 that is apparently coming out soon or
a Specialized Allez Compact 2012
Specialized Secteur Triple 2012

Those are the three he's mentioned, do you guys have any comments for him?

they're all big-brand stuff so nothing will be scarily wrong, he should just buy the one he likes sitting on, or the one with the prettiest paintjob.

Averaged 14.98mpg over 75 miles Cambridge to Southend today, on the fixie!

I hurt!

Came in somewhere between 20-30th. Destroyed myself doing it mind!

I've just ordered myself a new road bike, a Ribble evo pro carbon, and I'm wondering about pedals. On all my mtb's and my cheap old 80's road bike I use spd compatible pedals but as I'm going to need a new pair I wondered if it was worth getting some of the roady specific ones or just another pair of m540's.

Will need a pair of fancy dancing shoes and cleats if you get road pedals.

I'd stick with M540s if you're commuting, but if you won't be clipping in/out much then you could try spd-sl.

Did the same 18.5km route I tried earlier in the week this morning, went round over a minute quicker and got stopped at the lights twice which would add at least a minute, 26.5kmph average. Will start to look at increasing distance, when my lycra turns up that should bring me up to 30kmph average at least ;)

Enjoying being able to just get the bike out and ride, lot more riding time and less faffing. Even going for a 20-30 minute swim takes an hour or so by the time I have driven there etc etc

So any of the 3 I suggested should be fine?

I will be commuting on it but my cummute is on country roads so ease of clipping isn't much of an issue. Are road pedals that much harder to get in/out of than mtb ones?

New legs please!!
My first cycle of the year that wasn't commuting I think..

54 miles in 3hrs 26mins - avg 15.7mph

This is actually my ride partners log as my sports tracker decided to stop when we got to the top of the hill. Fuuuuuuuuuuuu

Jesus The Malvern hills are as steep as they look :D :o

Road pedals are almost always single sided which makes it harder.

I find that the tension adjustment on the pedal tends to make the pedal flop over, making it more difficult to clip in cleanly.

With an SPD pedal you can just mash it in really quickly, I am still adjusting to the SPD-SL, can be tricky to get clipped in straight away from traffic lights making it slow to get away.
