What's the best way to receive money from someone via the internet? I remember selling something online a long time ago and receiving the money as a Paypal gift to avoid Paypal fees. Is this still an option? Is giving a stranger your bank account number and sort code to do a bank transfer safe or a bit risky?

Yes you can send via Paypal gift.

Giving your account number and sort code is safe, and probably and easier option if you have online banking but no Paypal account.

If your receiving the best thing is to do a Bank Transfer. Giving your sort code and account number isn't an issue, they can't do anything with the information apart from pay you.

Paypal is the most secure way in terms of not giving up information though. Paypal Gift avoiding the fees. The two do tend to be the most common ways of transfering money, and normally people are happy to do either/or..

BT > paypal

rather take western union than paypal even lol

lololololo Paypoo steal yuz moniees! lololololol

 Paypal is a very secure and anom' option and will work without problems 99% of the time, especially for simple 1to1 transactions.

BT puts the sender/payer at a disadvantage because they have less control but otherwise it's a reasonable alternative but not nesscessarily online depending on your banking service.

its only secure if your using ebay... if your not its very easy to get scammed

im stupid for selling something to someone online, i phoned them before hand , checked there phone number belonged to the address they claimed etc...
had proof of the item beeing sent to that address which was there paypal addy.

they claimed it wasnt them who sent me the money and someone hacked there paypal acount....
i ended up with -£70 in my paypal balance even though i did pretty much everything i could.

if you dont sell via ebay they dont give a ****

i know someone else who sold something asnd the buyer paid with a creditcard, they rerversed the transcation with their CC company and paypal had the cheek to put the sellers acount into a negative balance.

btw captain planet if you want to sell me something ill happily scam you and change your mind , dont expect your item back though, consider it a valuable lesson learnt
