Was Looking at these through my telescope. The moon looked awesome but sadly couldnt see anything but a large white dot for venus. I saw jupiter and 4 of its moons though !

Damn that Prof Brian Cox and making me have an interest in Astronomy. I even brought an £80 quid telescope to look at things but it's rubbish :(

That's the same as buying a computer for £80 and complaining because you can't play Battlefield 3. :P

You should be able to get decent views of the moon as well as Jupiter and her moons. However depending on where you live light pollution may be an issue.

I started with a cheap(ish) 5" Newtonian and at first thought it was rubbish but after I learned to use it I got some good images. Stick with it and if the bug bites you'll be spending hundreds (or thousands!) on better 'scopes.

Definitely Venus :p

Saw this as I finished work earlier tonight and walked across the car park to my car - I was wondering if it was Venus or not?

Tried Skyview free on the I Phone which failed - it seems to report the bright object next to the moon as Aldebaran
