Hi, for my new PC that I'm planning on building, I can't deside between an SLI "448 core EVGA Classified" edtion (faster than an SLi 570) or a single 680. They're about the same price and the only thing I can think of is the SLI 448 will have more FPS but the 680 has more vram.

I don't know if I'll need the extra vram as I only game at 1080p.

I've just noticed that 680's are out, but i noticed they are all only 2GB !?

Most of the games i play exceed 2GB of ram, so personally i would avoid these 680's for now :p

OP plays 1080 I don't see him running out of vram with 2GB. Not certain what resolution you play at.
Not far off 1080p at 1920x1200. I've just noticed that games like BF3 and Skyrim for example are using about 2.5gb or more.

People have been saying for years........you don't need 3gb unless you're using a multi-screen setup! But i guess that's not the case anymore. Especially with Skyrim and all the HD addon packs.

I'm sure 2gb is fine, im just glad i went for a 3gb card rather the 1.5gb GTX580.

Not come across a game yet that doesn't fine when cranked up to the max :)

I agree, 2GB is stupid for a £400 card that advertises quad monitor support out of the box.

4gb varients are out in the next month or so around may

My bet is they'll be painfully expensive :(

IF you're careful with the settings, then 2gb is plenty. but turning AA down a notch really cuts a few inches off your e-peen

I'm sorry, but what? I've got the 1.5GB 580. Playing bf3 the VRAM never even gets near the 1.5 limit, never mind 2.5. That's with all ultra and 2xAA at 1080 res.

Then again, you spend more time whining about something in the chatbox than you do playing :p

The most VRAM useage i've had in BF3 is 1.6gb.

I just came across this....

Not much of a boost from the Classified at its default clocks. Considering that I tend to run mine at 950Mhz, the 680 doesn't look very appealing at all!

So now everyone who wants to buy a £200 GPU and plays at 1920X1080 needs to buy a £400 graphics card??

At this rate I might need to use my old 1024X768 monitor as it seems PC gaming is getting more and more expensive.

Slightly wrong with BF3 exceeding 2.5gb, been playing it since posting that and although it tends to be around 1.5-7 most of the time it does on occassion peak at around 2.2

Just because the card uses that much Vram doesn't mean it actually needs it :P

Yeah depends on a lot of factors - i.e. some games will page data they don't actually need immediatly for "pre-caching" purposes with no performance hit at all, some games can quite happily stream from paged VRAM without any performance hit... and other games will suffer badly with even just a few MB over the total GPU VRAM.
