I recently bought a new Asus Maximus IV Gene-Z motherboard (at a bargain price), and am now just in need of a CPU to get the new rig up and running. The two options in my mind are as follows:

Option 1:
Simple - buy a i5 2500K. I know this will be more than capable for my needs.

Option 2:
Sensible - wait for the IvyBridge chips in one month. However... I suspect I'd need a BIOS upgrade before these would work. Therefore, I could buy a Celeron G530 or £30, flash the BIOS, use for a month, then upgrade to IB.

All comments and suggestions welcome!

hohoho! If my opinion's worth anything, follow me in my footsteps. I've been waiting *patiently* with a core 2 duo from 2006, waiting for it to rust over. And I think come April, it will have had its last breaths.

This is many years of waiting my friend. I bid you wait like I have, one month is just one month, and get the Celeron. It's more than capable of browsing the internet, listening to music, etc.

You know it in your heart to be the right decision.

Don't be one of those peeps who buys an i5 and then sees how amazing the IvyBridges are, and then suffer in dismay as the disappointment and regret slowly sink in.

So yeah, if my opinion's worth anything...
Have a great day :)
