New Build: X79 Shinobi XL Review

window sidepanel will arrive in early April in the market (the one without fan grills), the one with fan grills is already available.

The case really would have benefitted from an extra inch or two above the motherboard, even running a slim radiator I'd not have been able to run push/pull fans, which is a shame. You also end up losing most of the 5.25" bays if you run a 360 radiator.
cheers for this comment been looking about push/pull configs on shinobi xl for a while now

Thanks for the informative review

I've now added another 16GB and a 256GB Agility 3 SSD to the build :)

Can't wait to get the cards under water, they are LOUD when they spin up!

I'm thinking for this your best bet would be a 240 in the bottom? and some kind of way to store the HDDs/SSDs in your optical drive? Although not sure you'll have room because of the top rad infringing upon them...

I've got a plan, but until the bits arrive I won't be able to prove if it will work or not.

For the meantime, I've been busy with the vinyl cutter:

Looks fantastic. Will you go with a few blue braided cables? They are very nice, but can add a bit more bulk behind the side panel. Though looking at your psu's pcie cables, being rounded theyre much better than the flat stiff ones on my corsair hx.

looks very nice... soon the waiting for you guys will be over when the window side panel will be available in April.

Yep, going to order the cables and some new 120mm fans, not liking the ones I have, not enough CFM for the noise they produce.

I'm also unsure if I should swap the front out for two 120s.

Yep, ive ordered two 120mm silverstone AP fans for the front, having a problem with the 230mm front fan when its ran off my fan controller, (zalman zm fc1+). Dialling the fan speed up, (clockwise) turns it off, i have to turn the knob anti clockwise to get it to run? Cooling isnt as good as the A70F, but thats to be expected with the closed front design, though im thinking of trying my lian li mesh 5.25 bay bezels with a fan behind them. The standard spectre fans arent great for airflow, ive got a few of the 140's. The new spectre pro's are reputedly a lot better.

like what you've done

nice touch to the cards...id nick that idea if i wasn't putting mine under water

i notice you've put your fans on the roof, have you noticed they slightly lift the mesh?
my typhoon's don't quite fit without a bit of lift

My cards are going under water too, but for the time being :)

Also, no my fans don't lift the mesh as I've sanded them down by about 3mm (1.5mm top and bottom).

Haha, I had to, the vibration noise was going to make me kill something.

Annoying thing is, I had to remove the fan plugs to get them in, and now I want to replace the fans...

And Setter; I've only used the front stock fan, the rest were immediately swapped out for Akasa blue LED (for looks not performance), but now I want more airflow (want to hit 5GHz+)

Haha, it did happen as if by magic, but I can assure you there were no priests involved!

The additional 4 DIMMs helped bulk up the blue as well :)

Done myself a few of these for adding a touch of individuality to the build. The radiator will receive the EK one in the recessed EK logo on the side of the rad.

Once my GPU blocks and backplates arrive, the GPU will get a bitfenix one (hopefully in time for the XL window panel to arrive on the market).
