Hello,

I've got a Samsung TV 32" I use for my PC and I got to admit it looks fantastic, The TV is 100Hz but on PC I can only achieve 60Hz,

If I buy a 120Hz monitor am I really going to notice a huge difference, Any personal experiance on this?

Or is there away for me to get 100Hz out of the TV as it's capable of doing it?

Many thanks

Hi there,

Unfortunately, the way TVs currently use refresh rates higher than 60Hz is to insert extra frames into a video to make the motion of a 60Hz/50Hz/30Hz/24Hz input video seem smoother. This is called motion interpolation, and is quite different from what 120Hz PC monitors do (even though the LCD panels may be similar) -therefore there is no way to get a modern 100Hz+ TV to accept and properly display a true 100Hz input signal from a PC.

In contrast, 120Hz monitors have been around for a long time (including with CRTs) and these accept a 120Hz refresh rate video signal from a PC and display it properly on the screen (there is no interpolation or guessing here). This means that fast-paced games usually feel much smoother on a good 120Hz monitor compared to a 60Hz monitor.

If you don't mainly play games that are very fast-paced then you may want to consider sticking with what you have (or invest in a nice IPS panel monitor) instead of going for a 120Hz monitor.
