Dave has since had an increase to 2233 with the new 12.4 beta driver.

I hope he doesn't do a suicide run with his 7970 just to prove a point though(not bashing you Dave just offering some advice).

Oh boy, this 680 is really hurting the ati boys.

Is it?

Don't see that anyone who has the high end 7000 series should care that 680 beats them a bit at stock.

680 is a lovely, fast card, with some interesting new features, but were I buying again now I would still go for my 7950's, if they cost what I got them for and the 680's were priced as they are now.

So the situation is pretty much the same as page 1 then. 680 better at stock, more or less even when equally clocked at 1920*1080 but 680 is better in better games like bf3. 7970 goes into the lead when clock for clock at higher resolutions and by the looks of the Heaven thread the 7970 OC's slightly better so far. But lets not let that get in the way of a good debate.

Carry on...

7970 CFX OC vs GTX 680 SLI OC @ 3600x1920

Test system:
2600k @ 4.8ghz
Asus P8P67 pro Rev3.1
16GB DDR3 1600mhz @ 1600mhz
OCZ Vertex 3
3xu2412 @ 3600x1920 resolution.
2 * Sapphire 7970 Reference cards using 12.3 Beta Drivers 8.95 march 19th
Stock clocks, and 1100 core / 1575 Memory (highest stable on one of the cards so both are set to that )
2 * Galaxy GTX 680 Reference cards using 301.10 WHQL
Stock clocks, and +100 on the core my cards boost to 1100, so 1200 core and + 250 on the memory so 3250 (6500mhz)memory (except on the Crysis and Skyrim tests the mem was at 3400/6800)

Considering BF3 runs better on older Nvidia hardware, and this continued with the 680 even at 5760x1200 then it’s a pretty easy choice, picking the better card is about what games you play.

Some shocking comments in here, and while I did hear that there were a few dodgy characters on here, but lying to someone who might listen to you and spend their money for something slower in the game they asked you about is very very low.

So these results weren't from single card at 1080p then?

As usual, I'll come up with the same reccomendation I always do, given that both the Red and green team have cards that are priced similarly and perform within a gnats hair of each other at similar clock speeds. If you are an average hardware enthusiast then:

If you are using an AMD card now, get an 7970 (or two)
If you are using an Nvidia card now, get a GTX680 (or two)

Save you less hassle in the long run.

Of course this is just for an easy life, if you want to ride bareback on the hardware upgrade train of pain, or you just feel like a change of colour in your drivers, then do the opposite, just don't come crying in here if you have to reinstall your OS, just take it like a man and do it quietly in the background, and next time don't run driver cleaner :)

is this serious? I just read another thread....

Tonight is the last night I am mucking about with crossfire 7950's.

If I don't have it running well tonight, am sending em back to where I got em and grabbing two of these. (talking about 580's)

Don't care about power consumption and don't think performance will be very far apart in dual card config.
