Bobby Rush, a US Democratic Congressman, donned a hoodie on the floor of the House of Representatives as he discussed racial profiling, only to be shouted down by the Speaker (BBC online).

Why wasn't he allowed to keep speaking? Do the crazy Americans have some sort of law against Congressman wearing hoodies in the House of Representatives

Maybe if racial people in hoodies stopped shooting people for no reason then there'd be no racial profiling.

In other news:
I don't care. Why is this relevant to me?

I dunno, I just feel that places like the US House of Representatives shouldn't be used for rational debate rather dumb publicity stunts.

It was a stunt, and you are expected to dress to a certain standard. Watched + skipping the video without sound btw. I would not accept a congressman trying this on either. Come back and say what he has to say in smart dress.

What is the dress standard that congressmen must conform to?

Personally I couldn't give a **** if he turns up in boardies and a rashie if he has a salient point to make (that is linked to his attire).

What do hoodies have to do with racialism?

they is all black innit ?

is what I guess is what the argument is based on thus making it 'racialism?

Although saying that all the hoodies round my way are posh teenage toffs from very middle class families who think they are 'street'............

go figure

Tbh, I would hardly call it a stunt.

It was making a point - something which is clearly lost on the morons in here.

If you don't want to be stereotyped don't wear a hoodie?

indeed, wear a pair of Jack Boots and goose step instead ?

On a serious note, where is society going to if you can;t wear certain clothing for fear of being stereotyped ? I wear hoodies because they are both comfortable and practical for me. Why should I then have to live in fear that I will alwasy get pulled by the old bill because of my clothing choice ?
