Well paid job?

The one thing I will say in favour of a job like this, is that at that wage not many people would go for it, so it could be a good chance for people with no experience (like myself) to actually get some experience that all other companies seem to require. I've started looking at what's out there in kent and there are very few entry level positions in IT, even fewer that don't require 2+ years of previous experience. If I was a software developer it's a different story, but trying to start off in a support position and move on to networking type stuff there just isn't much out there from what I can find.

Which is fine if they were looking to pay that sort of salary (if you can call it that) to someone with very little or no experience but clearly that's not the case.

LOL, you can get paid more for working at a mobile phone shop.

good luck even finding a job in a mobile phone shop !

this is happening right across the board , more unemployed desperate for a job so ompanies are offering awful wages that wont ever improve until the table is turned and companies desperate for skilled staff like they used to be

Its an employers market currently, so they are fully taking the **** knowing that some desperado who wants to get on the ladder bad enough will say yes to this.

how so? theirs plenty of programming jobs out their

for which the employer expects the prospective candidate to have experience in the field and a proven track record. Greenhorns from Uni waving a desmond in computer science will not land a decent programming job out of the block unless they are lucky or eat man beef under the table at the interview

Looks like either someone's copied and pasted the description in error, or just put the salary in wrong.

I don't think there's much else to it.

Look on the bright side - it'll be a whole £6.19 in October!

Guaranteed 1.8% payrise in 6 months and not a Union in sight!

ah but lunch is included!

Yep, that's got to be worth at least an extra £2 per day. If we say they're working an 8 hour day on average that bumps them up to ~£6.33 per hour...

I don't know much about the IT market in London but if it's correct then it's a pretty derisory offer given the list of requirements. It's hopefully/more likely to be an error though.

Nope. I struggled in North London on £36K some years ago. Unless you consider renting a room in a ***** flat and walking everywhere living

You definitely don't need £36k to get by in London or if you do then you're not giving much consideration to budgeting at all, national minimum wage would be a near impossibility however unless you've got some other kind of support - whether that be parental, spousal or otherwise. I'd agree that it's not much fun if you're struggling for money or having to restrict yourself much but having some idea about priorities means that should be able to do lots of things that you want on £36k in London.

I barely pay attention to the 'required' elements of a job posting anyway, let alone at minimum wage. Nearly every job I've ever had has required me to meet criteria I didn't match, my last one wanted me to speak German. It's just something you learn to brush off when you understand the market and how recruitment/IT works (perhaps I'm lucky since I work in HR IT so understand both). Don't ever be put off or swayed by the 'essential/desired' section of a job description. It's there to sift out useless people. The more you match the better, but it's very hard to find people who match everything, employers know this.

Besides which, at 16 I was earning half the salary of that job and I was very happy to take it. At 18 I was earning maybe 10-11k.

This. I've got jobs where I didn't have all the requirements they specified, as you say they're often there to sift people out and is normally an ideal rather than realistic specification.

That job description pretty much matches my job for experience, more in some respects. I have no degrees......yet i earn 3 times that amount.
It's a disgrace and has been said, folks who get the job will leave pretty quickly cos they'll either find a much better paid job or they'll realise that slavery has been abolished.....for the most part.
