Im thinking of adding more to my new build but im not really sure what would benefit me more... atm im using a 5 year old hard drive which is pretty slow at doing anything so im thinking maybe a 120gb ssd or add another 6850 and crossfire the two cards :S

SSD is a great boost, you will never go back. I love how quick my pc boots and apps load.

If you have the cooling, why not OC. Extra free performance, jus make sure its stable and you have a good quality psu.

Would won't get any more FPS from buying an SSD but you most definitely will reduce load times etc. a LOT!
As long as it is 120GB+ you will get plenty of games on it.
Agility 3 is the cheapest and best value at the moment IMO although best performing possibly still lies with the Crucial M4 for general use.

tbh i only build it today and havent had the change to play anything so im not sure how the 6850 will perform on games :/

SSD would be my recommendation, but it's really a matter of preference. The 6850 will do you fine but it won't give you max settings at 60fps in upcoming games. If this is what you're after then go for Xfire. However if you're happy enough with the performance of the 6850 then the SSD would give you a more general boost to your PC. Files will transfer faster to your SSD, games will load faster and windows will boot up quicker etc etc. I've got a similarly specced machine to you, and if I had the money for an upgrade an SSD would definitely be what I'd spend it on.

SSD without a doubt. Get a rock solid model, crucial m4 is highly praised on this forum. Went for an intel 520 myself.

Put it this way. Sure if you went xfire now you'd get better gpu thrashing powah. But you gotta remember, all the textures have to come from your hard drive and at 5 years old I imagine it isn't up to much.

another 4gb of memory would help a lot too,esp in games and general use

you need 64 bit operating system for more than 3.5gb of memory though, just incase you wasnt aware

what was up with it?

in BF3, if the FPS dropped below about 63, it would stutter like it was 5fps. Caused issues on Skyrim, couldn't play GTA IV without having it as a slideshow.

A lot of heat and power used for no gains over a single card at my res.

The 6850 will be fine for all games unless you want max settings in every game.

An SSD will give you load time benefits, but wont improve graphics.
Crossfire can cause all sorts of problems and probably wont give the graphics boost you expect from running 2 cards, so 1 new better graphics card is probably better.

A Radeon 6850 is fine though, shouldnt need to upgrade for most current games, so I'd go for the SSD.

on my 6850 u get battlefield on medium settings, some on low, no fancy **** like aa.

got bf2 on my ssd and it is amazingly fast, between my mates i was always the last one into a game, not anymore.

with xfire u rely on the game itself to support it, they say they do but u still get the odd performance loss or tearing. amd try to sort it with profiles but still dont help.
iv got another 6850 just sitting there not being used becasue of it.
