Was at work today and had a P7P55D-E fall into my lap, USB controller has gone funny and causing it to BSOD from time to time, so i was gonna RMA it and have it for myself ;) ... would have made me a nice office PC for work :p

But becuase it come from some people who i don't know, i don't know the reseller, which means i can't RMA it, quite gutted really :( ... Do most RMA services work like this? Never actually had to do it before (touch wood) and always assumed you'd send it straight back to the manufacturer.

RMA's usually require proof of purchase. Otherwise how would they know when to start your warranty from.

Wish i never baught the P8P67 pro now : p ... if that ever goes bust im just too lazy to go through the whole malarkey of getting it RMA'd ... But i guess this old board here will either sit and gather dust of meet the bottom of the bin haha ^^

what usb port is it usb3 or usb2? all of them or just one? tried turning them off in the bios if they are usb3?

if its etron usb3 theres a new driver that helps, some were having blue screens ect

No idea, i believe its the 2.0 ports, which is a shame becuase dont the 3.0's run off an seperate controller? so the thought of possiblely disabling them came to mind. My issue with trying to troubleshoot it is that i don't have a 1156 cpu to through into it and i dont really wanna shell out cash if its a waste. Is a big shame though, becuase im getting a 680 soon and my old 6850's would have sat on it nice and snug :(

yeah the usb3 is seperate, did you look close at all the usb ports? to makesure no metal is bent inside and shorting ect?

still could be a driver or bios issue though, pick up a cheap i3 530 dual core chip and test it

oh, just had a good look now for the first time and questioned the mate who gave it to me ;P

What happend was someone plugged the usb connector on the motherboard onto the IEEE header, causing it to, well, die. Found the firewire chip on the board "vt6308p" you can tell its been damaged, so the question is, if i disable that, will i be good to go?

ohh thats bad mistake, and i dunno depends if its only damaged the ieee, did it work ok apart from the odd blue screen? you might be able to disable it in the bios an it might be ok but you would need to test it

asus will just write it off as "customer enduced damage"

Yeah, was working, just blue screen from time to time. So im sure i can disable this in the bios, its not a big loss testing it to be honest, pick up an i3 530 like you said for prob no more than 50-60 quid secondhand, then if it doesn't work, flog the chip and the cards, and if it does work, beasty office computer :]

i dont know much about firewire ive never used it but you should be able to turn it off in the bios, you have the mb manual? it will say if you can in that

Ha, just had a look in the manual, first off, you can disable it *yay* ... secondly it says in big letters with an exclamation mark "Never connect a USB cable to the IEEE 1394a header connector. Doing so will damage the motherboard!" ... oh how i'd like to slap the person that built that computer ^^

its easy done though as they are the same size plug, they could have atleast made the firewire a different shaped plug to stop you doing this, you still dont know if it will cure it but switching it off completely in the bios will help

ive seen a few 530 chips go for £30-40 too and there pretty snappy

remember you need a graphic card as that mb wont be able to use the graphics built into the 530 chip

for that youd need a h55 or h57 motherboard, price looks ok though

it will work fine in a p55 board aslong as you have a gpu

Yeah that's cool, should have my gtx 680 next week for my main PC so ill use my 6850's to test this one, works out well really

bit-tech forums have an asus section. one of their former employees (Forum name bindibagi) now works for Asus and mans that section of the forum. Post there and you should get a fairly quick response.
