Window XP and Catalysts won't detect new 7850 - any ideas?

As per the topic title, Window XP and/or Catalysts won't detect my new 7850.

I load the Catalyst installer and the only things listed are the Catalyst software Hydra, and the Audio software, no Display Driver in the list?

This is with the Sapphire recommend 12.2, the AMD 12.1 and 12.3.

I've tried older 10 and 11 drivers too, same issue.

The steps I took to install, uninstall old 5850 from WDDM, uninstall Catalysts, reboot, install new Catalysts, reboot. Expect Windows to detect, it fails to do so.

Those seem to be the latest drivers for XP. 12.3's.

I think xp support is coming with the 4/12 drivers next month - just seen a comment about it on anandtech

Even the AMD auto detect tells me it can't detect my OS or Hardware. ****!

Thanks but I already tried them, same issue as all others, no Display Driver listed.

I've raised a support ticket with Sapphire asking them to explain the advertised XP Support and yet AMD are saying XP support is coming.

I've been duped.

As above, get yourself W7, your only losing out on the shiny shiny stuff stuck on XP.

It took me a while to leave good old xp but as soon as i did, it was a case of never go back. The support for xp is only gonna get worse so change now to win 7 which to be honest is a really nice step up.

Only Vista and 7 on the CD, there's a big sticker on the box saying visit their website for XP driver download.

Well seeing as you can get OEM copies of 64bit Win 7 Premium for ~£60 on the bay and a nice SSD from here for ~£70 it's not an expensive upgrade.

Typical, always end up spending more than I anticipate!

I'd just shove Win8 CP on for now and wait for Win8 to come out, you might be able to pick up a retail deal like they did with Win7 then.

How compatible is that with software and drivers though?

Seems fine tbh, i've been running it on the Mrs's rig since it dropped without a problem.

Win7 drivers work fine on it.
