I randomly found myself listening to some songs from old THPS soundtracks, and remembered this!

Unless you have been under a rock for the last few months you will have heard about the new Tony Hawks game coming out this year: Tony Hawks Pro Skater HD.

Coming to Playstation 3 (PSN) and Xbox 360 (XBLA) in July 2012!

It is a HD 'remake' of elements of the first 2 THPS games with a collection of levels from those games playable by a number of old characters and new.

So far confirmed Skaters are:

Tony Hawk
Nyjah Huston
Eric Koston
Chris Cole
Andrew Reynolds
Rodney Mullen
Riley Hawk

Confirmed levels are:

Warehouse
Mall
Phoenix
Hangar
School 2
Marseilles
Venice Beach

Launch vid:

Tony talking about the game with a bit of gameplay:

It doesn't look like its going to blow the world away graphically, but it is a return to the 'old school' style of gameplay. A good thing, because I think everyone will agree that THPS games went rapidly downhill after they started messing with the controls and gameplay.

Personally, I can't wait for this! Being on PSN and XBLA it shouldn't be to expensive. I hope they keep the tradition of the original games of having some epic hidden unlockable areas and mental characters and cheats. Doing eleventy billion flips with Spiderman while in slow motion will live with me forever!

Lets hope they don't push the release date back to much.

Tbh, after Skate and the control system I can't see many being over happy about going back to original controls and the flaws that brings with it. I honestly wish they would just rip off Skates control system and get on with life and bring me some decent games with decent controls.

The only skating game I ever played was Tony Hawks Pro Skater 2 on the PS, it was absolutely amazing. I was well and truly hooked on that. Remember briefly trying another Tony Hawks game a few years later but it was rubbish in comparison.

Skate is a far more focused and technical game. THPS was always a more arcadey game. I think they can both survive alongside each other.

It doesn't have the old music does it? :(

Its meant to be a 50/50 split between old tracks and some new ones :)

Having seen the gameplay video I wish they'd just redone the levels in the Project 8 engine, that was a beautiful engine and it seems like the levels haven't really had much effort put into them. It would have been nice to see the same level design but with more detail put into the art.

Skate just has a much better control system though, I'd love a THPS with that control. I lived Tony Hawks and Dave Mirra bmx and Matt Hoffman bmx back in the day (rode bmx myself back then) But then Skate came along and was a real game changer for me and many others, Will see how this goes. I remember playing the demo of the first one for hours and hours until my thumbs were sore.

Can't wait for this, I don't care about the old style controls, that's why I love the first 4 THPS games in the first place, it's just mindless fun and I'm glad I won't have to sit there and practice for hours on end just to be able to consistently nail a particular flip trick. :)

Needs the old music and a return of Officer Dick though. :D

They better have this tune in it, this IS Tony Hawk to me :D

Right nostalgia playing that back now, reminds me of all the time spent on the warehouse level!

They ran out of things to do with the series in the end (the plastic skateboard being the death knell!) but the first 4 were quality games.

If you asked me to name a song that defined the first two THPS games then it's this:

It's amazing how many bands I got into from the THPS soundtracks, off the top of my head alone:

RATM
Powerman 5000
Dub Pistols
Ramones
Alien Ant Farm
AFI
CKY

Argh that looks good, THPS 1 blew me away on the DC, would love to play it again to erase the memory of so many bad TH spin offs.

Can't believe THPS 1 was 12 years ago.

Superman is confirmed to be on the THPSHD soundtrack :D

I think the THPS games were the main driver behind the 'skate rock' music style. It certainly got me into it. It's amazing the memories that a few tracks can bring back!

THPS 2 was an amazing game back in the day. 3 and 4 weren't bad games but THPS2 must have been the pinnacle of the series.

Cannot wait to play this!
