Three and TMobile experiences

Actually the plan has changed, the iphone purchase will wait for 4-5 months until the iPhone 5 is out. What I'm looking to buy right now is the Sony Xperia S on contract. 3 are very uncompetitive on pricing for this phone. O2 looks best, but I'll go into carphone warehouse and discuss options. But regardless of phone, the question about networks still stands, and 3 looks a bit of a gamble. Definitely leaning towards O2.

I just tested out all the major networks all over London last month before I decide to go with Vodaphone(Talkmobile).

Here is my findings

T-mobile - Never had any signal problems with them however they limit the data plan, I was one of the lucky ones on then 2mb limit instead of the 365kb one so it wasnt terrible.

Orange - Had really bad signal but lucky you can share with T-mobile signal, Data I would get normally around 1.8-2mb which is good

O2 - Nice signal in most places and data ranged from 1-4mb

3 - I had really good signal but the data was very flaky for me, at times I would get a really good 6mb with low ping and at other times it would be around 200-300kb

Vodaphone - Good signal and amazing data, Im always running at around 7-8mb.

Spent last two years on t-mobile and to be honest couldn't wait for the contract to be over. I'm in south east and the call quality just isn't there on t-mobile, it daleks out on me even in West London, data coverage in car is very patchy - oddly enough it was quite good in sticks of Kent, but they have massive 3G coverage holes in London, with voice and data connection very often non existent or breaking east side of Limehouse Tunnel area of Canary Wharf, south side of Blackwall to Blackheath, The Highway/Embankment around Nomura building to name but few encountered by me every day.

I waited til they merge with Orange, but bizarrely things actually got worse with merge instead of being better. Mobile data in my office location got much slower from end of January and something happened to masts in my home location as I began to see less bars on my phone and started experiencing more battery drain when using phone to browse something in the garden from beginning of March. This is all subjective, I realise that, but I am very happy Tesco (O2) customer for several weeks now and most of my daily in car data gripes have literally vanished with move. Even my stand by battery life is better since I moved away from t-mobile.

Actually you have some valid points. Something I should have mentioned is with T-Mobile my data connection drops from 'H' the 'Edge'. This happens at home when on 'T-Mobile~Orange'. This will be the Orange signal in our area. Used to have no bother with strong signal at home until my local mast was switched off as part of the merger. On T-Mobile the signal is good enough really though a bar less than I used to be on same phone of course. Some reason it flicks onto the Orange mast and data suffers dramatically. Annoyingly this seems to crash the phone sometimes, or so it appears and it reboots. I've had to reboot episodes in last 24 hrs and both times I happen to notice it was on Edge and T-Mobile/Orange? Only noticed this at the weekend. Phone hasn't rebooted away from home? Anyway, that is another story  I'm not really sure why my phone switches to the weaker Orange signal at home. Doesn't often stay on it for long though. The self induced reboot puts it back onto T-Mobile. Don't you just love progress :o

Voice I do have to say is clearer on Three (here). I could port my number to a monthly contract with Three and not fix myself in for 1 or 2 years if things go pear shaped at Three? I'll mention again both O2 and Vodafone have been very poor where I live and work so such as Giffgaff not going to be an option. Tesco Mobile to for that matter. Mrs has an iPhone on Tesco and loading identical websites my T-Mob and Three phone leave hers standing :D

Customer service with T mobile is amazing, they've replaced several of my handsets without problems.

Having said that, I've had many issues with sending and recieving texts, problems which I never had with 3, so I have jumped ship back to three.

To be honest mate, I think both are fine companies. Three replaced a handset of mine a few years back and it went pretty smoothly. Also, if you get nowhere with customer services on 3, you could always try to go in store, or ask to be put through to the Glasgow call centre?

Also, I THINK that after quidco/TCB, 3 works out cheaper? It was the case a little while ago, not checked recently though.

Comparing to Vodafone which I've had for 8 years now, I'm now on 3 and reception for data (3G/HSDPA) is stronger on 3, full bars vs2 bars. According to both respective coverage maps it is clear that 3 currently has better coverage in all areas indoors and outdoors compared to Vodafone.

Vodafone's customer service is fine, I've never had a problem dialling 191 and getting through to someone who can deal with questions.

No idea on 3 yet but my limited experience calling them has been fine as well.

There was once a time that 3 had poor reception.

That time no longer exists!

I thought dropped calls and missing txt's was a normal occurrence across all networks .......... for a while! Had a txt at the weekend not turn up (and quite a few in the past) though sender not on t-mob so who's fault you can't be sure. I had a spate of dropped calls though that side of t-mob has been fine for me over the last 6 weeks.

Do Three still do free/cheap Three to Three minutes? Specifically on their PAYG/1 month contracts? I can't see any mention of it any more on their website!

I'm looking for a cheap tariff doing high data and many minutes (but to only one number really). I'm currently on 3Gb and unlimited landline calls, and I'm having trouble replicating it!

I've got to say I've been very tempted by three's contract selection in the £35 category. I use mainly minutes and data and i cant find any contracts that match their ones. I'm not going back to vodafone though. About 50% of their staff that i have had dealings with have been useless plus their signal is patchy at best for me.

I went for 3 in the end. When I went into the store I found out that I misread their coverage map. Or else they had a different one... The coverage is good indoors and outdoors in my area, and she pointed on the map to a mast location a couple of streets away. I'm not sure if that was already there, being built, or being upgraded, but in any case theoretically I should have a strong signal in the house. I'll know in a few hours time...

Never had any problems with T-Mobile in the 18 months I've been with them and will happily stay with them if they ever offer the One X. Great signal wherever I seem to be too.

Left t-mobile over a year ago to move to 3 and haven't looked back. Despite the data speed dropping back from when I first joined 3 it's still faster and more reliable than t-mobile was. Check what it's like in the locations you need it though but that goes for any provider.

Tmobile official release date for the One X is April 8-9 only on the full Monty package (£36 a month), i was told by retentions this afternoon, even though he expected it out before Easter Sunday.

3 have been great for me, constant 5mb download speeds even at peak times with great coverage, I was a loch mess last week 30 miles from the nearest town and I was getting 8.07mb down and 2.67 up but like anythingnitsmonly good if you got good coverage in your area

Moved from T-Mobile to Three and the speed is usually bang on 6mb except when im at college and then it is no signal to 1 bar. Have filled out the form on the site asking them to sort it as that's allot of people its putting off joining three when they see how crap the signal is at a college.

I'm with 3. I live in the South East and never seem to be without a High Speed 3G signal.
Although there is a bit of language barrier on the CS side of things, I never seem to have any problems with them. Bargain price plans too.

Went to see some friends in Weybridge, Surrey. No signal whatsoever on Three, not even for normal phone calls. They confirmed that they found this as well, and they have O2, which does have a signal
