The old dear is looking at selling her hatefull Astra and buying an Alfa Spider (2008 era). Been out of a drive in one today and whilst its no rocket ship it has a reasonable amount of poke and feels a nice place to be.

Anyone have any first hand experience of them?

Ive got to admit, it felt quite special. Gorgeous and a very unique car in my opinion.

The parents have the funds yes. Other cars in the household are a TT and Audi A5. Patience....Shouldnt be too much of a problem either.

Are Alfa's really as bad as people make out or is it just an overhyped stigma?

Its overhyped stigma from a by-gone era.

Quality massively improved with the 156/147, and the 159/Brera/Spider are further step on in quality. Don't expect BMW/Audi standards, however.

The 2.2 is seen runt of the litter, with the 3.2 and 2.4 turbo diesel being seen as the better choice. Dynamically is overshadowed by pretty much everything else out there, but they are a great looking car.

This.

If they were considering the S2 (1999-2004?) version then I'd be telling them to move along. I've got a '99 GTV and the only reason I still have it is that I can do all the work myself. The interior and the looks will be the only selling points over any other more quality brands.
