How do you see the world nowadays?

It's hard for me to compare growing up in the 90's to living now. I was a kid back then, I barely knew anything about anything. Actually, that's still the case. :p

My biggest concern in the 70s was what time Jamie and The Magic Torch was on. He had crazy adventures.
My biggest concern in the 80s was what the next Madness single was going to be. Also, girls.
My biggest concern in the 90s was whether Blur or Oasis were better. In hindsight, they were both crap. Also, girls.
My biggest concern in the 00s was growing up. Also, wife.
My biggest concern in the 10s is my girls.

Kids have got much more mouthy & lazy now

This is totally correct.

Horrible seeing the lack of respect these days and the "I want NOW" attitude. Kids have no patience. Also kids have got so reliant on their mobile phones and online that they can't think for themselves nowadays. If they don't know something they don't set up to remember it for future reference. They just google it like a robot and forget what it was they looked for 24 hours later.

Kids? Isnt that the same with everysingle person today including adults?

This is not a fault of children, we simply live in a technological age where mobile phones and the Internet are taking over.

I'll put it very simply, I couldnt live without my phone and internet. I dont understand how anyone could in this day and age (in a developed country).

The new stone age is every point in time prior to the invention of the internet and mobile phones.

Now we even have internet on mobile phones! I dont believe that anyone can honestly live without that unless they are just backward.

The internet is probably the best medium for education and research today as well. I'd rather be able to look through an online journal, or even simply google than have to spend a whole day looking through a library for a book which was obsolete since being printed as it hasnt been updated with the latest information.

Most universities now require you to do your research using online journals, text books are not allowed anymore as reference sources as they are not the most up to date material, or using text books only would get you a lower grade.

Another funny thing is that the last time I went for my NHS appointment, one of the doors to a doctors office was left ajar for a while. Inside it he had a wall covered in quotes from common internet memes, something that I thought looked really childish, but the doctor was easily in his late 30s / early 40s.

Your totally right about the internet, when i was at uni("when i were a lad") it was all books and there was also an attitude of "knowledge is power" i found it pretty cliquey to be honest. But now most people have free access to any knowledge when want at the click of a button. I also seem to remember the class issue was very much in your face back then, you could be working class, middle class, upper class, working-middle etc and all the other variations inbetween. Tradesman were generally paid pretty poorly but now they seem to be paid better than lawyers or doctors. For example you can be charged £90 just for a plumber to come out and give you a quote. In the 80s/90s you probably wouldn't have been charged for an inspection and then would expect to pay about £4 an hour for any work carried out. Where exactly did all this extra money come from anyway. Has the mint been printing money and pumping it into the economy?

The human rights acts have changed people ideas a lot also. I think it has both good and bad side affects. New labour really were the ones who implemented all that, i am glad they did overall. Funny how the "lefties" so called liberals are actually the ones who come in a set down all the new laws("social justice") whereas the conservatives are actually much more of the idea that people sound just get on with it and take what they deserve.

The idea that you could be as rude as you like to complete strangers didn't exist before the internet, I'm sure this relates to how schools are just zoos now, back then not a single word was said when the teacher walked in, zip, nada.
We had one kid who played truant in a huge comprehensive, I think he was the only one who smoked too.

The idea that anyone would go out with girls didn't occur until gone 16 either, they really were from Venus. If you look at the changes in what is being pushed at girls now it's pretty clear that sex is topic No 1.

Keeping in touch with telephone boxes was perfectly adaquate, I always carried a pocket knife and a ten pence piece just in case. We would drink out of streams too.

The last time I listened to Radio 1 and actually liked what they were playing was probably the 80's, ever since I've had to find new music from other sources. Popular music is beyond dire now and has been since probably the 00's, it's cliched and repetitive, so when a decent band appears it's like "wow, amazing".
I don't think it's me because some of my favourite stuff is actually from the last year, but somebody is buying a awful lot of rubbish.
I see a lot more pressure on people now, particulary kids with zero chance of buying a house or having to get a crappy job instead of living a little first. Life is such a treadmill now.

Some stuff is better, games continue to get more immersive.
Documentaries are stunning now, to think we just had world at war and something about wilderbeast.
The access to information is bliss, OK coming from book research you are aware of all the gaps and everything is trivialised now, but the breadth and speed is great. Kids have it so easy now, no wonder they get A's for no effort.

We didn't have Muslims in the 80's, just Sikhs. So the idea that a minority would tell us that we were wrong about everything didn't happen.

David Beckham used to play football at a competitive level, about twenty years ago, he isn't the go to man, to publicise anything British, he should have nothing to do with an under23 tournament for gold medals, let alone be the self prescribed Captain of such a venture.

How dare you knock the mighty David Beckham. Seriously nice bloke, who always gave everything in an England shirt and seemed to be the only one who actually gave a ****. Would love to see him lead out the players at the Olympics. He's a great role model and a great face for British sports.

I don't think that the world has changed so much as my perception of it changes as I get older.

People have done and always will do crazy things and as you get older you notice it more.

It's more prevalent today with kids than most adults imo. I work in a university and I see the calibre of NEW INCOMING students coming in (just done their A-levels) that are spoon fed info to regurgitate during an exam and they have little common sense. For a laugh I asked a bunch of them (4 girls standing near me) "how long to boil an egg for to get a hard boiled egg...and no looking up google"

Not one of them could tell me how long to boil an egg for a hard boiled egg....they are all 4th year students about 20/21 years old. I'm surprised they don't starve to death. The lack of retaining information or skills is scary and woe betide them if there is ever a network issue where online isn't available.

The "mobile internet" has also spawned a new breed of satan - Kids who use their phone on buses as a walkman but not using headphones and annoy the s*** out of everyone on the bus girr....

Everything amazing in the world is trivialised now, people have forgotten their sense of magic and wonder.

People expect too much and when they don't get it they get angry and unhappy.

People at work don't go to the pub on a Friday lunchtime anymore. Much more is demanded of employees and everyone is far more stressed.

Pretty much my life right there.... /sigh :D

Everything is a rat race.

thats no different to the 80's race to yuppiedom, or the 90's race to 'globalisation' etc

the world has been a rat race since the industrial revolution, its just a bit more in your face now with the digital media revolution.

I hate this too, then I was told by various people back in their day kids came on the buses with Ghetto Blasters\Boombox. So I shouldnt complain.

People expect too much and when they don't get it they get angry and unhappy.

Like people who work hard for a degree, expect to get a highly paid job soon after and realise they can’t even get a job, never mind a highly paid job. I dont blame them for getting angry and unhappy.

People at work don't go to the pub on a Friday lunchtime anymore. Much more is demanded of employees and everyone is far more stressed.

And when they do get home from a stressful job, they end up lock away on social networking websites instead of going out and meeting new people. With more and more turning to internet dating.

To be honest that wasn't really an issue back then as if it was loud music you had multiple people asking to get it turned down or off and they usually did without gobbing off back at you. Nowadays there is little respect and if you dare to ask them to turn their phone music down you get abuse spat at you :/

Late 80's were a much simpler time....

I'm only 19, but the kids these days seem so different to me. I guess this is the same with every generation, but a lot of kids from about 8 onwards now have an xbox/ps3 and play CoD. =/ I think this is ridiculous, not only do a lot spend a lot of time on it and it's bad for their health but I think more importantly it's bad for their minds, the language in online games is horrendous, let alone the gun fighting etc. Idk, part of me thinks that when I was a kid soldiers and guns was all fun and it didn't make me want to go around killing people but that much exposure to that sort of thing at that age can not be good.

I think the advancement of technology is great, but has a lot of negative effects and makes children lazy and take things for granted like mobile phones. I hate how a lot of people nowadays are taught the process of how to do things be it maths or science, but are not taught the meaning behind it. A good example is ICT at schools, they learn how to use software and think they're computer geniuses, but they don't care to what's underneath the case or how programs are made. Just seems a lot of people don't appreciate a lot of things.

Did he get sent off for scorpion kicking an opponent in a crucial match?
Seriously good role model. Overrated in people's minds.

You have the US based celebrity for the overage position on your Olympic team, I'd rather have a player who wasn't wondering what the best angle for the camera is.
