Hey guys,

I am finding it hard to get any dates on-line for when the next refresh of the mac book air/pro line is expected to be announced/released. The dates are kind of important to me because this gives me an idea of when it is best to throw my desktop up for sale to help towards the cost of one so any help would be great!

There is no information, only thing you can say is you're not likely to see new MBA/MBP before the IvyBridge CPUs are released.

So May/June is my guess, but it's still an uneducated guess.

That's great thanks, just needed some sort of idea on what to expect as I don't really want to part with my only computer until it is close to being able to get a replacement! many thanks!

Are you expecting the "refresh" to be the equivalent of re-inventing the wheel?

Why not just buy what's out now? Even better, save a packet and buy from Apple Refurb.

Nothing wrong with wanting the latest tech and not wanting it to be outdated in 4 month. Especially when it's so costly.

You never know what Apple will introduce, it might be a lot better than the previous gen and since it's the same price, well... why not wait.

That's a very valid point but it depends on your definition of 'outdated'.

Personally I don't think an increment of .1GHz on an i5 CPU makes the old one outdated for example.

Each to their own though, love the signature by the way.

If you knew for sure that's all they were going to do. Then I agree, I wouldn't bother waiting either. However, they have been known to do some upgrades other than the processor.

Since no one knows what they will do. It's always worth waiting to find out. If it turns out then all they did was change over to Ivy (and let's also assume Ivy isn't that great over Sandy) then you've lost nothing and you buy it anyway.

Resale value is also higher.

It's the expected shift from to Ivy Bridge and better screen that people are waiting on (well I certainly am!). IB should see much improved onboard graphics, and if the rumours are true then there could be Kepler in the 'Pro' models. These are all things worth waiting a few weeks for an announcement for in my opinion.

Gotcha.

Even I'd wait for that.

I do however have friends that were worried about the MacBook step from 2.3GHz i5 to 2.4GHz i5 and 2.7GHz i7 to 2.8GHz i7.

These are the same people that couldn't tell the difference between their MBP i5/i7s and my 2008 Unibody with 2.4GHz C2D ;-)

The only thing that is worth holding out for is the possibility of USB 3*

*I don't think they'll have it, but if they do it'll be worth waiting for as this future proofs it (with regards to peripherals)

I am basically holding out just for the ivy bridge, I am hoping that they announce a few other little improvements but it is the step from hd3000 to hd4000 that I am most interested in waiting a couple of weeks for as I don't plan on getting a big enough model to have discrete graphics!

*Have also heard some interesting news on some battery advancement that has been going around! Spending 6+ hours a day in busy labs with few plug sockets makes this amazing for me haha

Its just a nice feature to have if I ever want to play a game in some spare time say league of legends or something. Nothing vital but worth waiting a few weeks for none the less!

Definitely! Didn't realise people played games on macs! If that's the case, then definitely a good upgrade for those people.

just rang my local PC world and they didn't have any macbook air's in stock and they had no dates for when the next lot would come in. I said i heard that they may be refreshed soon, could that be why? She said possibly.

I have credit with PC world so have to buy from their business department so I hope they hurry up!

Theres no way ivy bridge cpus will be in Macs before they're released to retail.

Stock does seem to be waning for current Mac laptops, but thats probably because a refresh is a badly kept secret. Ivy bridge has been delayed, so it's dragging on a bit!

It's happened before ...
