Virgin Media new STM today

But it says

Are you sure about that, I'm pretty certain that I've reached the evening limit (10mb package) and I don't use any file sharing services. Think it was just a lot of youtube, iplayer and also other people using the connection probably doing the same thing.

They've suddenly introduced STM on the 100mbit package... ffs

I know, even if like probably most people myself included, your connection is idle 90% of the time, it's still too easy to accidentally go over limit and be punished for using it the actual 10% of the time it's used.

It's ideal 90% of the time becasue it is so ridiculouly fast - it's approx 1GB 1.5mins This means i'm only at 100% utilisation for literally a minute or 2 at a time, but over the daily period (10-9 ) that's 11 hours, I only need to use my connection for approx 45 mins to get punished. This is crazy.

What's the potential to get out of a contract now that theyve changed the terms significantly?

Speed doubled on one hand.....
Speed taken away with other hand...

They are C words tbh. Im really not surprised... I understand why they do this, Because they must but FTTC will be 80/20 soon for some and im sure the FUP will be better on some packages.

with 60mbits - its not going to take long to download 7gb even streaming

Thankfully im not a huge downloader - its still going to cause bottlenecks in my area.. i seem to have a serial downloader or 2 on my node that hammer it 7-8pm every evening and make stuff unplayable.

Only sky will bring 80/20 12th April with totally UNLIMITED and no nasty traffic management, p2p throttling or other FUP at all. I think 100 Meg down to 50 Meg is pretty poor and expecially these upload 10 Meg down to 2.5 Meg is really awful. If Sky bring FTTC to my area, I take Sky rather than Virgin Media 100/10. I think Sky FTTC will win head down! Exspecially cheaper price and non-STM and even better upload speed of 20 Meg.

Bear in mind it's VDSL also so unless you are <100 metres from the street cab you probably won't hit 80Mb.

The speed isn't as important to me as no usage limits hence why I'm in the process of moving from Virgin over to a VDSL / FTTC provider

Its just a big joke tbh, Trying to push out this 200mb just to please some MP's and yet cant handle the traffic they have. So lets start putting limits on everything.

I pay for the top package to have no limits. I no longer get that i get my speed halved to a speed someone's paying £20 for.

My old man loves his new Sky Anytime+ and at the new limits after he downloads 2 HD films i'm then put down to 50mb for 5 hours. Not to add i have 3 people online mostly every night and smart Tv's plugged into the network.

I not the type of person that leaves downloads going all day and just downloading just for the fun of it. My brother has just been idle on wow as thats all you can do on that game now and ive already used 98GB in the past 2 days. So basically i would be put at 50mb 24/7 after paying for the 100mb line.

But the funny thing is the website still is advertising "upgrade to our super fast bb with no limits" but i guess ofcom turn a blind eye to a company that size.

BT infinity 100mb here i come ^^

I thought it was always expected that 50Mb and 100Mb would eventually have caps anyway? Surely it can't be much of a shock.

A little annoyed as one of the reasons I picked 100Mb was so I didn't have that... but I guess the restrictions aren't terrible, plus 50Mb is still rapid

The top tier has always been STM free with VM :(

The limitations aren't terrible... it's just going from un-restricted to restricted is annoying... especially because at no point have they pointed this out to us. The change has not been communicated to anyone - the only reason I've found out is due to browsing the forum.

They seem to be giving us the 20mbit increase and a price cut... I'd rather continue paying the same price (or maybe a little more) and operate without any restriction.

While these caps are fairly big it does depend on your situation. I'm in a 6 person student house so a 10GB limit is less than 2GB each and we get less than 1gb each between 4 and 9. Bit of a joke really.
