Hi there

You need graphics card with as many Dual Link DVI ports as possible to make life easy. Otherwise you need to convert Display Port or Mini-DP to DVI using an active powered dual link adapter.

Performance wise at 5760x1080 then a 7970 or 680 is a must and maybe even a pair of them. :)

Wouldn't you need to be average 120 fps? At least thats what I think you need, so I would say something high-end tbh as Eyefinity/Nvidea surround is a pretty big resolution! Turning down the AA would helps loads though :)

I'm so veryyy tempted, but with the lack of displayport it will give it a hefty bump for ATI users as you need a £70+ active converter, or have ATI finally sorted that out now? :D

Also the post says £619 for the triple set but the website says £599 :)
 
For the triple monitor setup, what is the measurement between the edge of the far left side of the left monitor to the far right side of the right monitor when set up at the correct angles (as obviously the monitors won't be exactly side by side, the outer monitors will be aimed inwards)?

Also, how easy is it to manage what a triple monitor setup does in certain situations? for example desktop I would want all 3 screens on, and be able to have whatever programs running on whatever monitor, but when gaming can I set it to use just 1 monitor and turn off the rest, or if I want a BBC news stream running can I set it to only maximize to 1 screen?

£619 +VAT is the price with no discount. When you buy three we knock £120 +VAT off the price making the bundle just £499+VAT, compared to buying three separately at a total of £619+VAT hence the £120 saving. :)
 
the powered ones are still really expensive arent they? like 60quid up?

so for my 6950 to run tripple 120hz/3d, 1 can connect to the dvi-d port, the other dvi port is locked at 60hz :|, so id need two adapters to get from mini dp to dvi-d.

I *think* the 7 series is the same :/, and i dont know about nvidia, but a normal setup is going to need one or two powered adapters :(

Are the 5870's the same? I thought all the DVI Ports on ATI cars would be Dual-Link which support enough bandwidth for 120hz, you would only then need 1 Active Dual Link Display Port to DVI adapter to run the third monitor, I think...

I'm all very confused by this :D I'm doing some googling but everyone has different answers, I would have thought the DVI ports on the 5,6 and 7000 series would both be Dual-Link and support 120hz at the same time meaning you only have to worry about the Display Port connection in which Gibbo mentioned above you need an Active Dual-Link DVI converter to support 120hz.

I'm still tempted myself to go for a set and just run Eyefinity at 60hz for now as my 5870 wouldn't be able to run much in 3D/120hz at that resolution anyways. So my plan is:

- Have my centre monitor linked up normally as Dual-Link DVI from 1 of the DVI Ports
- Have the right monitor with the sae setup as above
- Have the left monitor running at 60hz for now (budget option) with a Single-Link none powered DisplayPort to DVI converter
- Setup my single screen profile in CCC to run at 120hz
- Eyfinity setup in CCC to run at 60hz across all 3 monitors
- Then maybe dual monitors (centre and right) to run at 120hz
- Few months later when I have the funds replace the Single-Link DisplayPort to DVI with an Dual-Link for 120hz Eyefinity.

If I'm totally wrong could someone please let me know? I'm fairly clueless with this and the internte isn't providing the clearest of answers! I'm pretty sure OCUK can.

I was here until 9pm last night messing, my had has been fried by Eyeinfinity.

From what I can tell when you have 5760x1080 resolution, they all just seem to default too 60Hz anyway. It is only when you run them at native resolution you get 120Hz option and only on the one connected into the Dual Link DVI port.

I am going to try and source some powered Dual Link adapters and report back, but may take some time as they are like hens teeth.

Thanks for the update :D

From a bit of google I think the issues might be with some 6/7 series card only have 1 Dual Link DVI port and the other is a Single Link therefore you will need to adapters in order to have enough bandwidth for 3x 120hz. One way to check this Gibbo is just to have 2 of the monitors plugged into the DVI ports and use extended display rather than an eyefinity group, you could then do the same for the monitor that is using the DP to DVI converter to see if that can cope with 120hz by itself. If they all do then I'm sure there shouldn't be an issue with running everything at 120hz in 1 large Eyefinity group.

After more reading it does seem like only some of the Display Port to Dual Link DVI converters can support 3D/120hz.

I'm tempted to take the plunge anyways and just hope I can find a way of getting it working over the next few months. For me this will still be an upgrade from 21'5"s monitors, higher quality screens, smaller bezels, all the same model plus 3D on at least 1 :p

Why is this stuff sooooooo confusing?! :p Oh wait PC enthusiast gaming! Nothing is simple!
