and they also get banned from driving for 10 years, does the ban start from the time they leave prison?

Might be a stupid question but you never know with our laws :D

You can't get sent to prison for 9 years for dangerous driving.

Maximum sentence is 2 years.

Either A) you're asking a rhetorical question
or B) you've been told misinformation by somebody.

To get more than 2 years you'd have be charged with Causing Death by Dangerous Driving which also carried a compulsory retest.

I always thought it starts from when you get out?

I've seen people get 12-18 months inside and a 12 month ban, what's the point in that?!

Haha, i knew the fingers would start pointing. There was a nasty accident near home last year and the drivers have got pretty hefty sentences.

Yes that's right. I should have mentioned death by dangerous driving. Still, the driver of the Rx7 got a 7 year sentence and 10 year ban and he didn't kill anyone?

"Simon Skidmore", heh.

They look like salt-of-the-earth types, good solid citizens.

7 years for the RX7 driver... why?

I don't like the look of them... but that's no reason to send the RX7 driver to prison for such a long time when he didn't kill anyone...

But he participated in the race which caused the accident...

And that makes him responsible for the Civic driver's ineptitude... how?

I can see how the RX7 driver could have been convicted of dangerous driving... but causing death by... hell no!

It also sounds like the passengers weren't wearing their seatbelts... so they share some responsibility in their own fate, a lot more than the RX7 driver for crying out loud!

Maybe he had previous, otherwise I agree it seems harsh(ish). It doesn't mention that he caused the crash in any direct way, e.g. through hitting the Civic.
