I have sims 3 base and 2 expansion games on steam, is it possible to buy a retail version of the game(disc) and they work together?

I think they are not cross compatable I looked into this not long back when there was a sale on either origin or steam when they was 6 quid or so for the big expansions

It is a pain that retail and steam aren't comparable. I have too many of the expansions to switch over to steam, but would really like to own all of them on there :(

Probably something they overlooked at launch, since it generally the same for other products. And why your blaming EA? Could be Value doing!

From what I have heard, valve wouldn't play ball with EA and so EA pulled all support for new EA games from valve so that people had to use origin instead and thus they also won't let you use your steam keys in origin.

It took the mic other day for me just to add crysis maximum ed. had to create pogo account and all sorts, my sims3 retail doesn't even register on origin despite me having the disk and it was made after origin needs

If you use a different email address for your Steam/Origin accoutns culd be why the codes don't work.

EA are adding games to Origin accoutns via backend. (IE: If you have a game registered to steam/sims3.com but not origin. EA will add that code to your origin account with the same email.).

If you have the steam codes, call EA support. They may be able to check the codes exist on another account. Then provide you with new codes to use in Origin.
