I have an old tape I found of my dog when he was a puppy! Didn't know I had it and would love to get it onto the computer in digital format.

I don't have the old camcorder used to take it. No idea how to go about this, suggestions would be great.

How very helpful of you.

I've looked on Google for quite sometime and I would have preferred the words from someone who has real life experience with doing this and could point me in the right direction.

Why not go into General Hardware and all the people ask what the best system for £400 is. Just send them all to Google. In fact why we don't we just permaban everyone on the forums who asks a question, because that's what Google is for!

I still have an 8mm Sony camcorder, but I haven't touched it in years.
Assuming it still works, I could transfer it onto DVD for you.

The difference is some threads require a simple clear-cut answer, and such threads deserve a "To google".

Whereas other threads are for debate/conversation and opinion.

"Best system for £400" (as you said) would be opinion and debate. But "How do you transfer 8mm to DVD" = To google.

My dad got some done recently of me and my brother when we were kids. Pretty sure he got it done in Boots actually. Otherwise, I'd be surprised if any of the remaining camera shops on the high street haven't branched into this as a niche.

Boots you say! Google doesn't tell you this! I'll take a look, thanks very much.

That's really very good of you to offer, I will pass though. I don't like putting people to any trouble and if I can get it done in the high street for a couple of quid that would be easier.

Again though, really very nice of you to offer!

I used to work in a local IT shop (high street jobbie) there was a local company that completed this work for us but i cant remember the name. They did pretty much EVERY thing film related to dvd etc. I will try get the name and will pass it on in trust if its any help
