Chatrooms: Anyone still use them?

I remember the Microsoft IRC servers before they moved it all to web only ( which got cracked ) how people would argue, split the server, have their split bots take the channel as soon as the server came up, then if they lost they would split the server again.

Good times.

Cant remember using a chatroom since the days when it was the cool thing to do, I remember picking up my first ever PCI 56k modem, and the guy behind the counter was raving about the internet, and how you can CHAT to people in a CHAT ROOM, I was like

O....M.....G!!!

Then it was a whole lot of

I used to use IRC and yahoo chat back in the day, My client was Mirc and I met some interesting people, and I met a few girls in America who were lovely to talk to. I used the chatrooms on freeserve as well. Then I used the Dream Arena on the Dreamcast back in its day.

I've not actually used a chatroom for years as back then before maniacs and complete wierdo's took over, the rooms were quite interesting. And plus I did kinda give cyber a try as it was quite popular back then :o

Used to use excite chat many years ago and i used UKchatterbox too, i was a moderator on there for a couple of years :)

Oh man, used one when I was in secondary school while bored in I.T lessons with my mates. Something like 'Joe Hollywood' or something along those lines it was called.

I thought chatrooms nowadays were provided by instant messaging clients? You can still have more than 2-way chat. MSN, Skype etc.

Unless you're talking about randoms joining a room, then last time I used one of those was in 1999, the chat client provided by Virgin Net. It was their own software you installed then you had different rooms that you could join. Virgin Net also had the 'Notice Board' which was the oldskool top-down messaging board, linear like as if it's one long thread. The number of trolls on that... freakin' hillarious :-)

The only time I ventured onto what is considered a "chat" site due to a recommendation from a friend (now ex friend lol) it was full of dicks....

Don't think I need to mention the game of roulette here? they might as well call it dickroulette lol

Needless to say it was a lot better back in the day of Yahoo chat, before webcams became standard.

The only chatroom I use now is DirectX network test lol, that went around school a few years ago, we used to login as teachers names and tell the other kids to get off the program and do some work, ahhh youth
