Proposals to block porn access in the UK!

It's all wrong and should be like this!

Why should WE have to contact the isp to be able to watch porn?, why not have us contact them if we want it blocked, make it our choice not the isp. Again the power is in the isp hand and not the customer

Because the country is full of terrible parents who make no attempt to control their kid's internet access? The issue with any opt-out system is that the parents most likely to sign up are those who aren't a problem, and those who are a problem won't sign.

It's also interesting to note that the main reason that porn sites were generally against the xxx domain was that they knew that, once in operation, it would only be a matter of time before countries blanket-banned that domain. If they actually do so, then porn companies will simply leave it.

Finally, I'm sure at least one civil servant has realised that an opt-in system would naturally build up a database at the ISP (and thus the government after a court order) of everyone who watched porn. Or at least those not internet-savvy enough to avoid the measures.

Soon pornography sites will be mandated to have an xxx TLD.

Are you being serious? If so, this isn't happened, if not, I don't see the joke?

Actually I don't see how that wouldn't work if those given the power are responsible enough, you only have to look at the OCUK forums to see how people are easily manipulated into policing one another.

Post a naughty link or sweary on here and you immediately have 4-5 non-moderator jobsworths telling you to fix it before a moderator even arrives, I'm sure it could be implemented on a wider scale (reporting links to a central authority type of thing).

So porn occasionally does make it's way here, which would mean OcUK would be flagged, and blocked by default.

OHHHH this gets on my wick this does!!!!!!!

Im sick of society saying that every man is a potential paedophile, that kids will kill each other if watching Chucky and now they are blocking stuff completely. "But it is for own good" lol.

Right  So snooping and recording everyone then telling people what to do is good? I watched Demolition Man on tv last night and I can imagine what this country would be like with a Doctor Raymond Cocteau running everything! 40year old virgins and sex helmet things so people cant touch each other. Think of the children!!! omg panic button activated lol.

It just tickled me that the article was written by someone called Andrew Hornigold. massively appropriate name in this case.

Internet pornography is massive business. Wouldn't the Government be shooting itself in the foot by cutting off this revenue stream?

Anyway it's just another attempt to control the Internet. Essentially by using the "think of the children" strawman argument the Government hopes to get this past Joe Average, after all "If you don't like this law you must be for kids seeing porno, am I right?" thus using the law as a wedge to get other laws restricting the Internet.

We've already seem this when Theresa May used the argument that the snooping law would be to protect children from online pedophiles.

I truly believe that the Internet is one of the best inventions ever. It's gives people more power, it crosses borders, it unites us. However this shift of power away from the centre is what scares governments across the world. I'd expect things to get worse as the western world tries to bring power back from the people.

All in the name of our safety, of course.

Didn't this crop up a few months back?

I echo one of the other posts, you can see the government having a big "I watch porn" database.

I'm someone that shares an internet connection, and the account isn't in my name. Rather than ask my flatmate to request this from his ISP, I'll look at bypassing the block.

Also absolute tosh that it is ineffectual. Soon pornography sites will be mandated to have an xxx TLD. Block them, and any IP addresses that resolve to one. Easy. Effectual.

You're living a dreamworld if you believe that. And anyone can upload anything to their server, no way of stopping that.

And you are living in a dream world if you think that the small percentage of people doing so makes it "ineffectual".

There is plenty of things already being blocked by various measures, all mandated by the government, and have done so effectively. There are still some that have ways around those blocks. It is still effective. Porn will be no different.

Besides, all you have to do to legally gain access is man the **** up and say "I am an adult" to your ISP.

And if you think that your ISPs and whichever government don't already have means to track your internet behaviour already, you are laughably mistaken. This will not be a "new" thing to see who looks at porn and who doesn't. "They" already know.

We can't even get russia and a whole host of other countries to take down their spamnets, and you think every country in the world is going to mandate their porn sites have a .xxx domain? Yeah right.

And no the government have not effectively blocked anything on the internet.

Where did I say every country will?! I only said there will be a mandate.

Currently there is a "world wide" mandate to *not* have any kiddy porn hosted. There is plenty sites around that have it, though. The blocking of that stuff is still "effectual" though.

Two reasons why child porn is not comparable:

1. Child porn isn't that popular.
2. It's illegal, unlike porn.

Unless every country does it, it will be ineffective, you will have porn showing up on google even.

The censoring of child porn is far from effectual, it's based on blocking urls which is never an effective technique.
