Hey,

What do people think of ASrock boards? Im after a new board, iv been looking at the 970 extreme3 (because its cheap and looks good) or 990FX extreme 3. its a bit more cash.

What are the boards like in general? any good, was tring to see what the 970 is like but not many reveiws around.

Cheers

Something I posted in a recent thread;

"I've used ASRock for years since the Athlon XP days and have always found them rock solid, great clockers (1.8ghz athlon to 2.7ghz on a £40 mobo lol) and innovative with features (939 dualsata2 had both AGP and PCI-E and could take an AM2 riser board for AM2 CPUs and DDR2 RAM - £45) while being cheap.

They were a spinoff of ASUS btw, now fully their own company I believe. "

I have had the same experience as Paracelsus. Bought a budget board for my last AMD rig and it impressed me a lot. Now on my i5 rig I went with the ASRock Z68 Extreme 4. Really happy with it. Overclocks well and does all I need. I've built a few pc's for people using them too and not had a faulty one.

Moved to ASRock after a bad experience with my old Asus board. Never again. But having said that, have had previous Asus boards which did well. Anyway go for it mate, I doubt you'll be dissapointed!

Nothing wrong with Asrock boards, have got four pc's all use Extreme 4 Gen 3 boards.
great boards, no complaint with them.

I still have 939 dualsata2 board still going strong, been retired, only light work now with Open Office.

I've been using my extreme 7 gen 3 a month or so, so far it's been fantastic reaching higher clock speeds & more stable overclocking than my previous board the asus p8p67 pro (first version) using all the same components psu ram cpu gfx card etc. I was a bit unsure about going for it as it's my first ever asrock board & their warranty is basically non existant in the uk :( it's back to the retailer for the first year 'n that's it so fingers crossed I won't have any problems down the line :D as I've said though initial impressions very good :)

I have an Asrock Fatal1ty Z68 Pro Gen3 intel Z68, fantastic board and not once caused any issues. Nothing more to say really apart from go out and grab one.

boards i dealt with back in the early 2000's were shocking, 80% of the RMA's were Asrock, think it was mostly down to the weird features they had.

a lot better now but then do they use via and sis chipsets anymore

Ye I had some via & sis **** around that time, just dropped dead without any warning a short while after the warranty ran out >_>

i bought a e4 gen3 z68 board swapped my gpu over to a 680 and the board died. the board was less than 6months old so waiting for RMA now

Did you get no post display with 680? Because when I got my Z68 extreme4 Gen3 my 7950 wouldn't work till I updated the board BIOS.

Apart from that this board is superb.

+1 to all of the above

Asrock used to be a bit dodgy, but now they are rock solid and produce some of the very best motherboards.

May I ask why you are looking for a new AMD 9 series motherboard? Did your existing board break or are you looking to build a new system?
