**NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 680 4GB ARRIVING NEXT WEEK - PRE-ORDER NOW!!**

Wow, £600 to play console ports. The only people who would be buying these are:

1) Loaded.
2) Upgrade itch.
3) Stupid.

Oh and just a little link for those who are sitting there thinking "You don't need 4GB!".

To quote a particular section:

When we cranked [Battlefield 3] up in a 64 player server at the highest in-game settings we saw it get near to 5 GB of VRAM usage on Radeon HD 7970 at 4X AA at 5760x1200. This game seems certainly capable of maximizing VRAM usage on video cards in multiplayer in NV Surround or Eyefinity resolutions.

If you have 1 screen, or don't use Adobe Premiere/After Effects, the 2GB card is fine for you.

I'm personally eyeing up the EVGA cards simply because of the backplate being so easily available. Might just get the watercooled card though, to be honest.

I paid £660 for a nice monitor... ok its going to cost £600~ to power! but thats what you have to expect at these silly resolutions. I doubt the EVGA FTW will be that much more.. As these people have set the level now.

But yes the gfx card prices are getting a little out of hand.. Seeing its only really a 670ti lol :)

As I said in my first post, Adobe Media Accelerator.
VRAM is a very important part on a production based system.

...though I will admit I'll definitely have a go of Skyrim in 5760x1200.

As I said in my second post, games in Surround/Eyefinity will greatly benefit from just the added VRAM, let alone the bumped clock speeds.

Got ArmA II free on some Steam wannabe client for free ages ago, such a bad game I could see why it was free.

If number 3 is anything like 2 then people will rave about for a month then it'll die a slow death like 2.

Not interested either way.

ArmA has it's nasty things but if you look past it it can be sooooooo awesome in teamplay

I game at 2560*1600 everything maxed and have no issues with 2GB of RAM.

There is a difference between an application is saying it is using it and it being "needed".

Windows 7 tells me I am using 6GB of my 16GB of ram. When I had 4GB of ram it said it was using 2GB.

Do I notice any difference at all? NO!

Same principle.

Show me an apples to apples benchmark across multiple titles on a GTX680 where a 4GB card consistantly performs better and I'll be happy to agree with you.

They tried that with the GTX 580 1.5 and 3GB and some most cases there was no real difference. Maybe 1-3fps difference.

In some cases the 3GB actually performed worse.

Well of course. Having more VRAM in terms of gaming means you can hold more data, the only thing this affects is load times and lessens I/O stress.

If your game is saved on an SSD, you have little to worry about. In my case, I need the extra VRAM for advanced After Effects rendering. Using just Rotoscoping, 30 seconds of 1920x1080 video will completely fill a 1GB GPU.

These 4GB cards are more useful to a point, but I'd benefit much more from a Quadro.

I don't buy 4GB for better FPS, I buy it because I need the vram.

Just spotted the gainward gtx 680 phantom 4gb in germany on sale for 627 euro which would be around 517 pound... Evga gtx 680 is 445 euro here in netherlands, 367 pound. UK really expensive :(

There you go. Yes, taxes really drive UK prices up. Prices are a good bit cheaper in the US as well, the cheapest GTX 680 2GB come in around $520, add U.S. taxes of 6% gives you $551.20, then convert that to pounds after commission and you're looking at roughly £367.47.

Factor in a plane ticket and things even out, but the actual value for money is all spread out.

Don't forget to add VAT (20%), all items entering the UK are subject to duty/VAT, there should be zero duty, but you will have to pay VAT.

At which point your back at the UK price of £440, so no cheaper.

If you order online from US, then you don't pay US taxes, you just pay UK taxes plus shipping on top.
