BMW warranty - Why do people purchase?

Thats all good stuff - you want that sort of stuff.

An 07 plate 325i wont have the newer N53 engine which is good and bad. It's good because it's more reliable, it's bad because it's more thirsty.

That's what i have been reading up on. None of that coil injector stuff. Its a touring and has the idrive system which is what i was after. Not fused it doesn't have leather seats as the Mrs was giving me grief about that anyway. No xenons either, but i can live with that. Got some other toys which will keep me happy, but at the end of the day its the trim, engine, idrive and colour that i wanted.

No Xenons is quite bad as they have terrible looking reflector lenses if you dont have Xenons, it isnt like the E39/E60 facelifts and the E46 facelift Coupe which had projectors even if you didnt have Xenons :(

While we're on the topic of BMW reliability/warranty, any thoughts on the old 1 series? I would imagine they tend to be a bit cheaper than other BMW models. More specifically, the 123d versus a 130i - there's a £7,500 08 plate on Autotrader at the moment which seems suspiciously cheap, especially given no mention of mileage.

In my opinion its always worth the extra cost of buying from a franchised dealership. Warranty. Much better service. Dents/chips/wheel rash/interior sorted. Car is mechanically checked etc...

Especially if from BMW/Audi/Merc/Porsche

I dont remember how much exactly it was but remember reading how much Porsche dealers spent on an OPC car before sale and thinking gosh thats a lot.

With a BMW you can buy pretty much the same warranty yourself on a 3 Series for £500 a year.

Much better service.

Yea right - once you've signed, thats it.

I bought an AUC only because it was the only such car for sale. They added no value to the purchase at all beyond the warranty and the smiles and service stopped once the deposit went down. They even told me I couldnt collect it on my preferred day as the salesman had a day off. They'd given it a quick clean because 'We have lots of cars to do' and told me I should 'buy a new one' when I asked why the high gloss shadowline was tarnished, etc etc.

Service? lol

That might be your experience but its not mine. UNLESS you dealt with Scothall watford. Avoid like the plague. Otherwise ive always had good service and problems have been dealt with professionally

It was my experience of Stratstone Doncaster, Wollaston Motors , Wayside, Coopers and Elms. Some were OK(ish) when buying and all have been woeful at best with after care...hence not buying BMW any more.

Would recommend buying Porsche only then;)

Seriously though that is a little dissapointing. There really cant be any excuse for poor service.

Jag have done pretty well, thats why I'm on my second, but its about finding a decent dealer...

Glad to hear I'm not the only one who thinks that Scotthall Watford are terrible ;)

They truly are. Mishap after mishap when I bought my Z4M. Went elsewhere for servicing.

Went for a test drive of the M3. salesman had ABSOLUTELY no clue about it....which is fine...but then he started spouting **** about how M mode released 100 more horsepower and various other confabulations.

Started getting an annoying squeak coming from the front suspension when travelling slowly over speed bumps in my late 2009 E91 - sounds like someone is going for it on a dodgy bed!

Are any suspension parts covered by the warranty? The car has done 43k miles and will be a bit peeved if its not covered - my previous cars have all done well over that mileage and never needed any suspension fixes.

A quick search brings up possible culprits of sway bar bushes.

Ive just brought the extended warranty for my 35i Z4, £442 a year off the top of my head paid in 1 lump sum as it was cheaper than doing it monthly.

Just to many things COULD go wrong with the roof and the many systems. Also the N54 engine i read is quite prone to HPFP failure and injector problems. Also i dont have any plans to sell for the next 2-3 years so would start to worry about the turbos
