I'm wondering what the deal is here. I've newsstand on my iPhone and It said you download magazines at app store. So I take a look. Most are listed as free, but then you have to pay subscription. Question is.. If I download say total guitar magazine wich is free, will it then auto subscribe me and charge me every time there's a new issue? If so its not on.

No it won't. When you open it, it should come up all the issues and you click to buy the ones you want. From memory you then get the option to buy the subscription then (single issue or longer etc)

Will download an old mag and check for you in a sec

EDIT: Yep, just as above, get an option for all the issues and you just pick the one you want and buy that way. Definitely not any auto subscription anyway and I doubt that would be allowed by Apple anyway

The weird thing is that it seems that for quite a few magazines that it's cheaper to buy individual magazines instead of a subscription. Am I seeing it wrong?

I haven't really looked at subscriptions - any examples?

I don't know if it's my imagination but prices might be going up and down. Some might have special deals on. So sometimes it is cheaper without the subscription (For a period of time?).

Mac Format £2.49 per issue (In shops £5.99) Subscription: 1 month= £3.99, 6 months = £22.99
Total Film £1.49 per issue, Subscription: 1 month = £8.99, 6 Months = £15.49 & 1 year = £27.99
PC Plus £2.99 per issue, Subscription 3 Months = £8.99, 6 Months= £15.49 & 1 Year = £27.99

You cant get a 1 month sub - its 3, 6 or 12.

Yes you can... e.g. Mac Format does have the option of 1 Month. Now if they have done something wrong is another matter.

But as you see on the iTunes website the single issue is more expensive than the 1 month subscription (Renews every month). So if you go through the mag app one issue purchase is cheaper. So I guess they have some drive on.
