All I have to say Is WOW!! at first I was thinking why do people go on saying this is prob one of the best games they've ever played, I found the game to be different to other fps games. I wasnt bored one little bit the story was well told and felt drawn into the game and feeling for the caracters the ending to episode 2 was a big OMG moment.

anyone else feel the same about the game?

Still haven't finished episode 2, should really get round to it.

Do agree though, it draws you in well

Just need a conclusion to it all....

HL2 is quite decent, but for me there are a couple of places it lets itself down.

Firstly, the driving around the mountain roads - good fun, but very drawn out and monotonous by the end. It's just "drive to the next checkpoint, get out, kill everyone, loot everything, drive on".

The bit around the middle-end as well when you're moving through the city, it's just very monotonous as well. Moving from building to building, clearing room after room.

Having said that, I wouldn't not recommend the game. It's very very good.

Half Life is basically the poster child for PC gaming, but Valve are badly letting themselves and everyone else down by not finishing the series in time. They've released multiple games since Episode 2 now, and have still got one more to do (CS:GO).

It's been nearly a decade since Half Life 2 has come out now. And there's still no sign of the closing chapter.

Yes, I played #2 and the Eps a few years ago after hearing so many gamers say how awesome it is.

I also really liked having another character helping along the way, sort of like CoD4 when you have help during the levels.

I really can't wait for the next release :)

You really should. They acknowledged the criticisms of the first episode and made the second just as good, if not better, than the best bits of the main HL2, imo.

Wasn't that long ago that I completed the episodes. They really are fantastic. It is crazy hat they haven't brought out HL3, but I guess they are waiting for the true next gen hardware.

Valve have done wondrous things with the HalfLife franchise.
I have loved all the games since my first play 10+ years ago.

Which brings me to my point! Have you played ALL games in order?
HalfLife (Source)
HalfLife Blue Shift
HalfLife Opposing Force
HalfLife 2
HalfLife Lost Coast
HalfLife 2 EP1
HalfLife 2 EP2
Portal + Portal 2

Yes the original games are graphically dated, but still the player easily gets sucked into they world presented them.
Portal Franchise, is also worth Playing, as Black Mesa + Aperture Science both competed for contracts, so not too dissimilar.

I wait in hope for EP3 or HalfLife 3 announcements....

I have played them all in order :)

The first few are definitely worth playing if you haven't already. There are plenty of mods that have updated the graphics too.

I wouldn't count the portal series in there though.

Time to dust this baby off again. :p

I wouldn't count the portal series in there though.

It's certainly set in the same world, I wouldn't call them all one franchise though. :) I suspect that HL3 + P3 will have even more cross-overs than Ep2 + P2 did. :)

Indeed. HL2 is one of the few (possibly the only game) that I would happily return to and play through again. Fantastic game. Always amazes me when someone posts in here that they haven't played it though!

Crazy ow long ago it came out - feels like only yesterday...and to think, back then I (and most other people) thought Steam was a pain in the bum because the servers got overloaded leading to a game that wouldn't unlock :p

I take back everything I said about Steam back then :D

CS:GO is being co-developed by Hidden Path who also helped out with CS:S.

The "Bugs" levels in HL2 were one of my all time favorite moments in PC gaming. It was just awesome to send swarms of these things into bunkers, guard towers and trenches and to wtch reactions of the covenant soldiers. I've not enjoyed making AI fight AI like this since DOOM:)

Episodes did not draw me in though - I got bored with driving-geting out-driving-getting out very quickly and then fell in love with IL2 Sturmovik and forgot about HL2 altogether.
