i have a fairly old system upstairs doing nothing , my main is a media centre pc ( in spec )

i sort of looking to update my old pc as back in the day it was a half decent gaming rig ... looking at getting an amd 6850 , its an xp system with 2 gb ram and the monitor is an iiyama 19" vision master pro which still looks good .

question .... is the cpu still capable or do i need to add some changes ?

atm i'm mostly console gaming , and anything i do play is via steam = games that are 3 years old at least. but i'm getting an itch , and missing cuttign edge pc gaming liek i did have 10 years ago

any thoughts ?

I came form the same CPU at the start of december, i had a 7900gt oc graphics card.
It will still play games that are like 5-6years old. Not worth buying a new graphics card though, what do you currently have?

Some games point blank wont run on a single core. I was playing Skyrim on low settings with the 3700+ and 7900gt with 2gb RAM.

It will not play modern games generally i spent £350 on mobo/cpu/ram/gfx in sig. Will play all games at decent settings at 1080p

Not worth upgrading.

well i can add w7 to it , and i still think the monitor can cut it as a gaming screen, crt imo still kicks arse. and seeing as i got a towver with semi good power suppy i think they could be put to good use

its got teh old classic galaxy 7300gt in it :D , it did have a asus 8800gt but i sold it on mm 2 years ago when i was gettign media pc.

i can do a slow build and add new cpu / mobo at soem point . just not all in one go

If ya just want a decent little gaming rig and are not trying to max everything out you can build a pretty cost effective system with a FX-4100 and a AMD 970 MB. I mean for the price of a i5 2500 you could pick up that chip, mb and ram and have a decent little rig with that 6850.

AMD a lot of gruff but you can build a pretty good budget build with them that play games well and at decent setting. It overclocks pretty well to which is a bonus.
