Hi guys,

Anyone else think it would be a great idea to have a Travel forum?

Somewhere that people can post about their holidays, places they have been to, ask for advice about travelling etc?

Think it would be great for those that are looking for ideas and inspiration for future holidays or people looking at travelling in the near future as I know there are quite a few on here that have experience and have given advice in the past on such topics.

Plus its somewhere to just come and look at other peoples holidays photos and to get jealous while we sit at our desk at work.

Just an idea anyway :)

I would support this. We have a lot of holiday/adventure threads throughout the year, not just at this time of year. Somewhere to collect them seems sensible given the volume of posts. It would certainly be more popular than the "On The Water" sub-forum.

Been thinking of asking this myself for a while, there's so many holiday threads made on here every day nearly.

Would be good to see pics and ideas for holidays.

If there is no reason for a religion/philosophy sub forum, given the respective amount of threads on the subject then I can't see any for a travel or gardening sub forum.

Not that I am opposed to whatever people want, I dont have to post in them after all, but just trying to rationalise the MODS logic in choosing the sub forums......

OP, sorry for vague response above, but I recently petitioned for such a forum, unsuccessfully of course.

Never saw that thread or I would have been right behind it.

EDIT : Mods - I just feel that GD is a little too broad and scary to go and post your holiday pics. Plus all the travel threads seem to get lost on there.

I went to Bali last year and did the whole culture/day trips etc. I got some good photos of a place a didn't really know much about at the time of booking.
I could offer tips of activities, excursions, recommend hotels and resorts and upload photos. However I didn't bother with GD as by the time 30 pointless threads had been started my travel thread would be long gone and missed. The travel forum is somewhere I'd visit as regularly as GD and motors.

A thread a day . OH MY GOD.

It doesn't help that within an hour the thread in GD will be off the first page and there will no doubt be some unanswered question as nobody will then search back to try and find the thread. At least in a Travel forum if a thread it started, the only people replying are actually interested in the topic and will no doubt return to the thread and forum.

Don't get me wrong GD would be awful if it was split into loads of different topics, but I think Travel would prove to be pretty popular.

We do get a lot of travel related threads nowadays and I do think it would be a good idea to consolidate them in a sub-forum. It may even encourage people to take a Fox like approach and post reviews of their trips.

Haha what are you suggesting...?!

That many religious or philosophical threads begin with a daft proposition so it gets posted in GD and then the chaps like Naffa, Elmarko, Rainmaker, Semi-pro and others who actually know what they are talking about get involved and it evolves into something worthwhile.....

A dedicated sub forum would allow all this, and more to be collected in one forum....it might even encourage more people to get involved as they might not feel so opposed to sharing their views away from the lunancy and judgementality of GD.....

It would also make it simpler to moderate.

Or maybe promoting religious debate on this forum isn't good business....

OT anyway...?
