*** The official Sony Xperia S thread ***

Anyone know what the McAfee theft protection thing is that I keep getting prompted about ? It requires a fee presumably ?

Info about McAfee for Android:

You have an initial trial period followed by an annual subscription if you chose.

That was one of the first things I uninstalled soon after the first boot. Much better free alternatives (e.g. Avast)

Yep. Only downside is battery life, but ICS is supposedly much better with that as well as firmware updates which will come. The screen is simply stunning, and given that is your primary interface with the phone, the importance of that cannot be overstated.

The 0.73 firmware makes a big difference to battery life. Combined that with an official ICS ROM, then battery life will be more than acceptable.

Can't get that, all I get is the option to arrange own order, alphabetical etc. No individual apps and no red x

EDIT: got it, bottom right hand side of screen on mine

I like the look of this phone but the cheapest I've seen it for new is £379 sim free on Amazon. What's the best price you folks have seen it go for. I can't justifie paying £400 or more when quad core phones are only a little more expensive.

Erm... you don't need to pay £400 or more, I think someone in this thread said they'd seen it on the rain forrest site for £379 sim free. :)

I got fed up waiting for the galaxy s3 so went for this. I really like it... it's my first ever smart phone!

Only gripes I have are the same as everyone else; battery life, unreponsive buttons and silly usb flap!

Screen is awesome and I like the design of the handset too.

I haven't really done much with it as I don't know much about android phones! :(

PS. I got 4 NFC tags since people are asking (from o2).

Battery life: firmware version 0.73 is coming, which makes a big difference to battery life. In the meantime, force phone to 2G or 3G network mode.

Unresponsive buttons: two things. Rather than tapping, try swiping from the bottom up. If that doesn't help, the Xperia S is fitted with a screen protector by default. The protector extends over the touch buttons too. People have reported removing the protector helps massively.

USB Flap: Agree. However, gets easier to open after a number of recharges and you develop technique.

I think only operator branded handsets came with them in the box, I am not sure though.

I've ordered some from Mobile Fun today anyway :).

Regarding the USB flap, I found it quite easy to handle after a using it a few times, if you haven't got a case on your phone try pulling it out from the back of the phone, rather than the finger nail gap, worked for me.

the .73 Singapore Generic Firmware appears to be indistinguishable from the UK Generic and is available now. the improvement in battery life is substantial :)
